5.0 out of 5 stars Best Buy - Lawn Mower Heaven
A 3/4 size quiet, light-weight economical cordless electric mower that works great on my 50'x100' lawn. The wheel adjustments, with a shot of WD-40, are a BREEZE (the same for any other new mower - so plan ahead!) :) I'm 50 and semi-arthritic, but no problem after a shot of oil to the wheels.

I've only had my Bully lawn mower for a week now, and am still trying decide whether or not it was a wise purchase. I've already had several plastic bits & pieces fall off after only cutting my grass one and half times, and have had to scour the lawn trying to find them. The most recent piece that fell off held the handle together, which made for an awkward cutting of the grass. I am REALLY hoping Bully is telling the truth about how the battery builds up power after multiple chargings, as right now I am barely able to get my small front yard cut before the battery dies. I also think it doesn't have the power to cut some of the thicker grass in my back yard. I probably wouldn't recommend it, at least not so far, which bums me out as I really liked the idea of not using GAS to power a lawn mower...

I've had a similar mower for two years and have rediscovered the joys of mowing. Quiet enough that I can get the job done at 8 am before heading to work on a Saturday, even with neighbors who hate noise. I'm so happy to be done with pull-cords, numb hands, ringing ears, gas, oil, and yearly maintenance!

After charging for 48 hours, I gave my new mower a real test. I work 50 hrs/wk and after three weeks of rain, the lawn had gone to 6-12 inch grass (yes, I measured it to be precise here) with thick patches in front, and nearly all thick growth in back. It does great ... keep in mind you are no longer pushing around a heavy mower so its easy to get used to zipping over the grass ... just slow back down a bit going over the thick spots. Set the front wheels on highest setting, and back wheels on lowest, to get best cutting/speed performance.

The full charge did my front/side overgrown lawn in about 35 mins on 1st charge, and after recharging a few hours (and waiting through a thunderstorm) it finished up the back yard jungle in 25 minutes - wet and thick growth sure didn't slow this one down! Fantastic, fast, half-hour sprints.

After ordering I found to my surprise the company is local and was able to pick up my mower on-site. Excellent customer service, communication, flexibility and access. No, I have no affiliation, just very grateful to find this excellent mower available! Its a gem for busy people with smaller lawns.

5.0 out of 5 stars Give it some time..., July 12, 2006
By
Even though I did read the info saying it would take the battery some time to come to a full charge I was initially diappointed with the power of this little mower. I have a good sized yard and planned on mowing half at a time. It still seemed lower than my expectation of the power described but perhaps that is because I had a Black & Decker cordless electric for 6 years. The cost to have it repaired was more than the Bully so I decided to give it a try. I cannot believe this is the same Bully mower I was using a month ago! It will do my whole yard if I do not allow the grass to get too high. I do not know why it took so long for the battery to fully charge but it is now the mower I had hoped for, so lightweight compared to the B&D and convenient to use. Just give it some time before you make a final judgment.

The Bully is a wimp.

This is a 12 volt machine with a lightweight cutting blade. The mower loses power readily when encountering any resistence which forces me to set the cutting height higher than I want. This, in turn, requires me to mow the grass more often than I want. There is no way this machine retains its cutting power for as much as the advertised forty minutes or so. About half that is more like it.

For comparison, my neighbors have an old Black and Decker 12 volt cordless mower (one of the first made), and it will cut circles around my Bully.

The environmental pluses of the Bully seem compromised by the performance minuses, to put it kindly.

Any user of this machine will have to give MUCH ATTENTION to keeping the blade sharp to compensate for its reduced size.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cut the cord...go battery, June 20, 2006
I was a bit hesitant to order this mower without actually seeing it. After some more research, I decided to pull the trigger and place the order. The mower showed up about a week later - just in time - my grass was getting long and I didn't want to borrow my neighbor's mower again.

Assembly took less than 15 minutes - had help from my six year old daughter. Plugged the mower in for overnight charging. Waited until the charge light was green and was good to go. I have about a tenth of an acre of grass - was able to cut it all without noticing any reduction in power. Followed directions and didn't re-charge since the battery still had some juice. Next time the grass was ready to cut, the mower lasted about 15 more minutes. Charged it up overnight and finished the job the next day. The instructions urge you to drain the battery before charging again.

Same thing as the other reviewers with the black plastic covers on the wheels - all four escaped during my first mowing. I didn't bother trying to put them back on.

The body is solid but not very heavy. Each wheel has a height adjustment lever which isn't that hard to adjust. Sidenote - I went on vacation for a week and, when I got back, the grass was taller than usual. I moved the adjustment levers past the last metal tab and gained a bit more deck height...they stayed in place for the most part - except when I bumped into light posts, etc.

I have spoken to people who have the corded electric mowers...although I've never used one it seems like going around trees, etc would become a pain...in a hurry. The Bully makes cutting grass a breeze - if your yard isn't too big.

If you are thinking about purchasing this Bully mower - I'd go ahead and do it. No gas/oil hassle, no breathing in exhaust, and you get to feel good about cutting down on pollution.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bully OK, but not for everyone, April 11, 2006
Here are some things I wish I had known before buying:

The mowing height is adjusted separately at each of the four wheels. Fortunately my hands are not arthritic, because the adjustment is quite difficult, requiring lots of force to pull back the lever, and the force must be maintained while you move the lever to the appropriate notch. This is not an easy operation, and you will not want to change this adjustment very often!

The only provision for the clippings is side discharge: no mulching, or bagging. If you mow frequently and have a small lawn, that's not a problem, but you will probably have to do at least some raking with this mower.

The hub caps are constantly falling off. They need to be removable, since you might want to replace a wheel. Otherwise I would just epoxy them in place.

I was unable to find a manufacturers web site for Bully.

None of these complaints is sufficient to make me go through the inconvenience and expense of returning the mower, but I do regret buying it and would probably have been happier with the Neuton (not available through Amazon) I was also considering before buying the Bully. Still, the Bully is very light and easy to use, and the price is right.

1.0 out of 5 stars Pushing is not easier with this cordless mower, May 15, 2006
By
Yes, you dont have the hassle of the cord, but you have to go all over again the same place to get the same results as a corded mower. Results: you spend much more time and the results are more frustating than with the corded ones.

This is made worse by the little 16" blade. Anyway, if you are in a small patio or lawn, the cord should not be a problem.

Take in mind, as the batterie goes down, so the speed of the blade and consecuently the quality of the cutted grass.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just right for my needs, April 4, 2006
I have a small lawn on a city lot and no garage. So I looked for a lightweight power mower that I could store in the basement and that I could carry up the stairway without straining myself. A gas mower was out of the question because of the obvious fire hazard indoors. What I found is that there are not a lot of options. The Bully is less than half the weight of the other battery operated mowers, yet it does everything you need a mower to do. It runs for over a half hour which is more time than I need. There's no need for extension cords. It's about as loud as a vacuum cleaner so I can mow most anytime I want. And I love the fold up handle, which allows me to store it completely out of the way. It also arrives fully assembled, another bonus of the folding handle design.

I guess the trade off for the light weight and smaller size is that it's not quite as powerful as some mowers. The Bully has one heavy deep cell battery; the others mostly have two; hence the weight difference. Just keep up with regular mowings because it probably won't cut through a yard full of thick long grass, like a gas mower will.

Be sure to charge it for at least a full 24 hours before your first mowing. After that, you can keep it plugged in between mowings. I noticed that it holds a charge better and has more power after it charges a few times. So if you think it's a little sluggish the first time you use it, remember that it does get better.

I hope this helps a little in your decision making. I looked at all of the cordless mowers, and this one is the best deal on a mower for small lots. WS

5.0 out of 5 stars I want my "bully"., November 11, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Bully 16-Inch Cordless Electric Lawn Mower 2020 (Lawn & Patio)
In Nov 2006, I purchased the Bully 2020 cordless mower from Amazon for $230. Upon receipt (I live in Hawaii), it was well packed, compact and impressively, very light. Assembly of the mower (the handle only) took a few minutes. I charged the mower for 24 hours per the instructions. After the first use, its everything I expected. The mower is constructed very well except for the wheel hub caps which all (four) fell off on its first outing. The battery lasted exactly 41 minutes on the first attempt. That was great considering it is suppose to get better as you charge it more frequently, and the max time is supposingly 45 minutes. It did not seem to slow down, instead it just shut down after 41 minutes. Fortunately, my yard takes about 45 minutes to cut and I fell short a few feet. So I'm very happy. This mower is not a power house. It handled my 4-6" grass very well but it will bog down and take more time if you challenge it with more than that. The major pluses are its very light and quiet. I mowed my grass this Sat and my neighbors did not even hear it during college football. The motor sounds and runs great; no vibrations and purrs like a cat. And the cordlessness. I will never go back to extension cords or gas fumes again. Its fire engine red and its construction reminds me of a Craftsmen toolbox. And you gotta love that name for a mower. I want my "bully". Five stars for expectations.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good on PA terraced yard, May 16, 2006
Our lot has 4 different terrace levels that grow grass. My gas mower is just too heavy to get from one space to another so I have used a weed eater for where I couldnt get the old mower. I ordered this bully mower due to its light weight. I works good as my gas mower ever worked and goes wherever I want it to. The lower part of the handle is a good lifting point. Seems well built and hasnt run out of power yet. Cutting height is hard to adjust but I did it once and dont think I ever have to adjust it again. I looked at the Black and Decker but it is heavy and costs $200 more. Good buy.
