2.0 out of 5 stars If I read this book I would likely become paranoid and still have no answers
Being managed by a boss whos major goal seems to be to trip me up and damage my career if possible, I have adopted a couple of strategies. None of them are mentioned in this book. One has to understand that the bully usually is yout supervisor and is not willing to play fair. If you want to survive you will need to adopt a box of tricks and be very resourceful. You have...

If you are in a profession where bullying takes place....professions with strong managerial oversight....social workers, teachers, nurses...or in helping professions...ministers...and have been a victim of bullying; get this book. Your health is more important than an unqualified and projecting bully who's inadequecies cause her (or him) to lash out at your confidence and your self worth; and who use their position of authority to make themselves feel better, lording over you your ability to provide a living....
this is for you.
Honest, thought provoking, compassionate reading. why are you a victim of bullying? Two basic reasons: you are good at your job, and you are well liked. Two things the inadequate supervisor/manager cannot bear, because it exposes them to others, for who they really are. How do they bully? Incessant and unnecessary (and useless) criticism. On and on until you are torn down. The result: longer term productivity decline, absenteeism, poor morale, and lots and lots of turnover. No, it is not that you can't handle the job: it is the bully who destroys the morale. When a victim leaves, the bully is sure to attempt to inspire others and say, "that person couldn't handle the job", but let wisdom be justified of her children....wait and watch. As each person leaves, they will be torn down, as will you when you decide that you have had enough. Don't wait until your stress levels impact your health...get this volume now.

Tim Field's book is a standard reference volume that we use and highly recommend in our ministry with individuals who find themselves trapped and psychologically abused in toxic, dysfunctional systems (workplaces, volunteer organizations, families, etc.).

Dr. Field has done a remarkable service to society in producing this book. We are fully grateful.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book has been a true lifesaver, August 13, 2004
This review is from: Bully in Sight: How to Predict, Resist, Challenge and Combat Workplace Bullying (Paperback)
This book has been a true lifesaver for many people targeted by workplace bullying/harassment. Mr Field's insight provides understanding and validation for the targets, analysis and exposure of bullies' underhand tactics and ploys, and valuable advice for those having to defend their safety, sanity and dignity from workplace bullies, as well as for those in a position to assist them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hope for the Trapped, January 26, 2002

I have been following Tim Field's work closely since 1998 - visiting his ever-evolving Web site weekly. I read "Bully in Sight" from cover to cover twice. It provided me with invaluable and indispensable help in coping with stalkers and bullies. I have dedicated the last 5 years to the study of the Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD). Most narcissists are bullies. Few have captured the essence of bullying and stalking as Tim has. His work has given hope to many - the trapped and desperate victims of bullying, harassment and stalking. His book and Web site should be the first stop on the road to recovery and healing. 5.0 out of 5 stars The Bully in Sight, May 4, 2005
This review is from: Bully in Sight: How to Predict, Resist, Challenge and Combat Workplace Bullying (Paperback)
I read this completely eye-opening book with amazment. First of all, it really defined a silent epidemic most workplaces are having to deal with. Secondly, it really outlined definitions, places to turn, and what to expect from abusive workplaces. I would highly recommend this not only to those in an abusive workplace, but for anyone trying to help someone who's been through this ugly phenomenon.

If you've been the victim of bullying and mobbing, then you must read this book to help you cope with situation. It should be a mandatory read for all new managers and HR staff. Bullying and mobbing is a very common problem yet very little understood. Its a must read for everyone.

So, you just found out you have been made the Target. Now what? Where do you turn? Education about bullying is ONE MAIN element to jump start the pathway to recovery and beyond, Bully in Sight is THE place to start. While written by a British citizen, Tim Field, published in Great Britain, bullying holds no border boundaries and is present around the world. You are not alone. Empower yourself to understand what is being done to you. Have you even thought this: I always thought the purpose of going to work was to do work, not to spend one's entire time fighting off the unwelcome attentions of more senior managers. All my attempts to give excellent service to customers and contribute to the profitability to the company were thwarted by the immature behavior and non-existent interpersonal skills of my abusive managers." (page 1 and 2, Bully in Sight, Tim Field, printed in 1996.)

Senior manager not your bully, insert neighbor, family member, co-worker. Throughout the book, Field mentions terms familiar to the British, but United States has equivalent terms and conditions in most cases. The book is designed to be read cover to cover, but I did not find the British terminology to be difficult and could relate to terminology congruent to the United States.

Mr Field's book tells all, he holds nothing back about the truth. For Targets, if you need to read only one book about your situation to understand, and to combat workplace bullying, this book is for you. Do you need a good nights sleep? This book won't put you to sleep, but after reading it, a good nights sleep is one thing you will achieve. Did you know that being bullied causes health issues? Field discusses that also, and what to do. You already know you're the Target, that was the first major leap. Now find out why, and what YOU CAN DO. NOW! Order the book. Bully in Sight: How to Predict, Resist, Challenge and Combat Workplace Bullying

I recommend this book for every School Teacher. I recommend this book to every Human Resource personnel. bullying (small b on purpose to show how inconsequence, and a capital T for Targets to show their Value) Let me repeat, bullying is not a worthwhile venture, it serves no real purpose, it says nothing about the Target, and is not a part of our human condition.

This is a very informative book on many forms of bullying. After reading it I actually felt sorry for my tormentors. Many good tips and techniques for addressing the bullies and handling the situations at work. Best thing to do is keep a written record of the events for use later. If you have problems with bullies or Mean Girl Gossipers at work be they management or co-workers this book can give you great insight into the problem you are up against and help you end up on the top of the game. I'm glad I bought this book, it helped me understand the situation.

This review is from: Bully in Sight: How to Predict, Resist, Challenge and Combat Workplace Bullying (Paperback)
You have to understand that you are dealing with a psychologically sick person. You will have to get inside their mode of operation and I did not find ways to do that in this book.

Books I would recommend are: Tongue Fu! by Sam Horn
Get Anyone to Do Anything, by David Lieberman
Emotional Vampires, by Albert Bernstein
