When we brought this home we sat her in it and it was a hit right from the start. WE use to sit her in her bouncy chair, but it's not as upright she doesn't have the ability to look around as much and really a bouncy chair is only safe on the floor where as with this seat we sat her on the couch (our couch is a giant) and in different places and she really enjoyed being able to just sit and watch. The first time she used it she sat in there for 2 hours sucking on her hands joyfully. Absolutely love it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bumbo is Great, March 1, 2009
By
This review is from: Bumbo Baby Sitter (Baby Product)
We have used the Bumbo seat since our daughter was about 4 months old. We are still using it to this day and she is now 7 months old. She is around 19 lbs and around 28 inches long. Her legs are a bit chunky and we have no problems. She is a longer baby but I would say unless your baby is a real chunky baby you will be fine. We actually delayed in buying this seat after reading a comment on here saying that the seat is only for a smaller baby. That statement is completely false in my opinion. I would say average to above average sized babies will be just fine for a long while. Great product!!! Our baby loves her chair.

2.0 out of 5 stars Glad I didn't buy it!, September 11, 2009
This review is from: Bumbo Baby Sitter (Baby Product)
I managed to borrow a bumbo baby sitter from a friend and starting placing my kid in it since he developed neck control. Even after a month, he's not been able to sit it in for more than 5 minutes at a time!

He keeps twisting himself into an awkward position such that one leg would jut out and the other leg would be retracted in. He also tends to slump over to one side of the chair and he frequently tries to "eat" the arm rest. I bought the bumbo tray table and stuck his toys on it but that hasn't changed anything. He looks really uncomfortable, nothing like the kid in the photo on amazon.

It only took a day or two to get him accustomed to the Evenflo exersaucer but with the bumbo, it's taking forever (maybe never)!

I think it's silly that reviews for the bumbo baby sitter are separated and categorized by the color of the chair! If you view the reviews of the bumbo in blue, you'd find some helpful critical comments there - with sound advice to test the chair first (either at a store or borrow a friend's) with your kid.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bumbo Recall, February 4, 2010
This review is from: Bumbo Baby Sitter (Baby Product)
It seems like there could be a danger of head injuries on any hard surface, even if seat is placed on the floor, if baby jerks backwards. I googled bumbo, thinking about buying this item, and found the recall, which was serendipitously announced today. My 4 month old son loves to practice sitting when we hold his hips, as the bumbo does, but man is he a strong 18 lbs, and I have little doubt he could manage to rock any base that weighed even a bit more than him. I guess we'll stick with lap sitting practice for now. Or maybe we could get a bumbo and glue it to a piece of plywood...

FYI: Bumbo Seat Recall

By SunSeven

This is hot news. Serious head injuries prompted the Recall of Bumbo Baby Sitter Seats. New warnings and instructions are to be provided to consumers. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, along with the manufacturer Bumbo International, of South Africa, today announced a voluntary recall of Bumbo "Baby Sitter" Seats. Consumers advised to stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. The reason indicated is the risk of serious head injuries. If the seat is placed on a table, countertop, chair, or other elevated surface, young children can arch their backs, flip out of the Bumbo seat, and falling onto the floor.

So please do not use Bumbo seat now and wait till the company comes out with further information. And please do not buy any new ones for the time being. Currently Bumbo is being sold on stores like Target, Wal-Mart, Sears, Kmart, Toys R Us, Babies R Us, USA Babies and various other toy and children's stores nationwide, and various online sellers. The recalled Bumbo seats are sold on these stores from August 2003 through October 2007.

5.0 out of 5 stars I have the BLUE, but I LOVE BUMBO!, March 27, 2010
This review is from: Bumbo Baby Sitter (Baby Product)
Length:: 2:25 Mins

(BASED ON THE BLUE BUMBO REVIEW in Amazon)

I previously gave the Bumbo four stars, now its five.

Ive been using the Bumbo for almost 6 months now, and it has helped tremendously if I tally all the work Im using it for.

Like most new mothers, I received and bought hundreds ( it feels like thousands)of new things for my baby. Like I have 3 gym or playmats, 4 carriers, clothing, toys and more toys stacked up in the attic, etc.

BUT only 1 or 2 will stand out in each category.

BUMBO falls under the sitting-infant category. Its numero 1--No.1 in my list. When my baby's neck became strong, I started her on a Bumbo. It has a concave seat design, thus contouring around the baby's pudgy bottom. Its rubbery cushy so Im sure she's comfortable.

My baby also likes to see things from an upright position, and Im more than willing to oblige if that's her innate nature of inquisitiveness.

So far, We have used the Bumbo on the following activities:

1. Watch her Praise Baby DVDs

2. Watch me cook from the floor on her Bumbo

3. Play on her Bumbo with crunchy things

4. Recently, FEED her on her Bumbo ( cant use the high chair bec. she cant control her back yet)

5. Enjoy a date with my husband and her on a Bumbo inside the restaurant.

6. Play in the snow in her Bumbo. (Maybe she's wondering why everything around her was so white)

7.BATHE her quickly.

Yes, I'm bathing the baby using the Bumbo. Its hilariously fantastic! When she was 1-3months , of course we use the small tub. Then Ive been using the Summer Infant Bath Support wherein she's laid out like sunbathing. It didnt work so much because she wants to see everything within her eye-level. The squirming didnt help.

I thought, why not use the Bumbo? It worked. As you can see from the video, she is in place and curious about the water.

Im careful not to move away from her so her bath lasts for less than 5 minutes. Bumbo does the job well. The water gushes out from the seat so Im sure she's squeaky clean. After turning the water off, I use the hooded towel from behind her. Place the hood on her head and scoop her up.

Moreover, Bumbo works during dinner time. We bring it with us when we head out to eat in restaurants or family gatherings. People cant help but smile at babies on a Bumbo. As I mentioned, they cant be on a high chair yet. I have a choice --- carry or bumbo her. Bumbo, it is.

Peeves :

1. Your baby may outgrow it too soon.

Some babies just grow too fast. While some babies outgrow their clothes, mine is on track. This may determine how one can outlast the bumbo. my baby's on track and so far she still fits the Bumbo. i could even see there's more room for her to grow into it.

2. Cost? Maybe

A rubber seat may cost too much, but I got a Nursing Baby Bond for $35 or a Boppy for same price. I suppose its uses outweighed cost disadvantage.

I got mine second hand during a street fair, back when I was clueless about baby products and very pregnant. It was literally handed to me. All I could do was nod ok.

3. Alert when baby wants out.

Never ever leave the baby on an elevated area on her Bumbo. Gravity+height+ squirming baby equates to disaster--awful disaster. By the time your babe reaches 5 months, her limbs will be noticeably strong. Hence, you must take precaution. She'll try to push her body out--yes, she'll try and she wont be successful but it'll sure budge the Bumbo.

I keep her on the floor--- at least, when she can whoop out of the chair, she'll land on the floor. Her developed skull can take that just as more falls to come from sitting up or walking.

That's all for now.

4.0 out of 5 stars Baby loves the Bumbo!, November 27, 2009

YMMV (Your Mileage My Vary) but my baby loves the Bumbo! We have a high chair but we still feed him in the Bumbo sometimes. We also have the Bumbo Play Tray (Bumbo Play Tray) which I have also reviewed.

I say YMMV because I have another friend whose baby would throw up every time she sat in it. Another friend's baby would cry/squirm every time she was placed in it. Given the price etc., I suggest you borrow one to try out before you make the purchase because I have noticed the every little person is different and there's no way to predict how he/she will react to the chair.

Better still, buy a Bumbo + tray used from a local moms' group. I did, and it was a fraction of the cost of a new set. The seat + tray are practically indestructible plus easy to clean so there's no need to get it brand new.

5.0 out of 5 stars This chair rocks!, May 16, 2009

My 3 month old is making great strides holding up her head, but hasn't got the overall core strength to sit up straight for long periods of time. We just got the Bumbo today and she sat in it happily for 30 minutes. She would have gone on longer except we had to run errands. She smiled and found it easier to use her hands to pick up things when she was securly seated. She was getting impatient with reclining slings and rockers, and seems so pleased to be able to sit up like a big kid.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not for babies with big thighs, January 10, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Bumbo Baby Sitter Yellow (Baby Product)
My son has had good head control from an early age, so we just pulled out his Bumbo. He's 2.5 months and I can already tell his chunky thighs won't fit into this for long. It's already close to a tight squeeze. I've heard this complaint before, so it wasn't a complete surprise, but I'm a little disappointed anyway. I was hoping to use this for feeding him when he starts solids, but I don't think there is much chance of him fitting in this to 6 months.

He enjoys it at the moment, which is great, as he doesn't like to sit in any one place for long and he likes to see what is going on. This is great, especially for smaller babies.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best baby invention!, January 7, 2009
By
J. Miller (Okinawa, Japan) - See all my reviews
We tried the Bumbo out first in the store, before we bought it. Baby and parents instantly liked it! Our little 4 month old couldn't sit up by himself, yet. Once, we sat him in the Bumbo, bam! He was sitting up! And, without any support! We take it everywhere! Its especially great in restaurants! A word of caution though, if you baby is really wiggly or small. He will be able to wiggle his way out of the Bumbo. Our is baby is a little on the thin side and is able to wiggle his way out of the Bumbo, if he really tries! We always set the Bumbo on the floor, at home. A baby can't fall off the floor!
