Honestly, I think the only characters in the book that I actually liked were Derrick and Lemar. Keith was way too flaky for my taste, even though I really wanted him to get his s--- together. Though they both made mistakes in the beginning of their relationship, Derrick was WAY too patient and WAY too nice and in the end Keith did not deserve him, IMO. Not because of his issues due to his past, but with this so-called "love triangle" madness. Keith didn't love Jessie, and vice-versa. After Jessie showed his true colors, I really just wanted him to get shot. He was an evil, manipulative little snot. I wish Lemar had been able to get some counseling to deal with his grief, and maybe he should have moved in with his aunt. He was already taking care of her kids and he needed to be away from his mother, like yesterday. And Keith's mother and grandmother? OMG, I couldn't stand either one of them.
This is kind of a crazy story, like some kind of emotional roller coaster with bumps, twists, and turns. But in the end I think it is a story worth reading. I finished it within 24 hours.
