5.0 out of 5 stars Bob Leatherbarrow is bumpin' in the penthouse in his 1st cd., May 5, 1999
This review is from: Bumpin' in the Basement (Audio CD)
Leatherbarrow has played with the best, a behind the scenes drummer who blends the drive of Jack deJohnette with the sophistication of Shelly Mann. You find his name on lots of cd's, but this is his first, and he shows his wares as a drummer and composer with a variety of magical tunes. The tunes range from soulful to hard-driving, spirited to laid back. This has become one of my favorite easy-to-listen-to jazz albums and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes that sophisticated West Coast jazz sound. This could become a classic.

5.0 out of 5 stars You'll Want To Visit This "Basement" Often!, April 5, 2001

You've heard him before but probably didn't know it. Leatherbarrow has played on major film soundtracks, television scores, cartoon themes and has recorded and played live on tour with some of the biggest names in jazz...now, he emerges on his own as drummer AND composer. Leatherbarrow may have conceived this work while "bumpin' in the basement" but believe me, this is a "high level" jazz album. Just check out "Monkalonius"...see if you don't hit the repeat button the first time you listen to that one! If you love jazz...the kind you thought nobody did any more, but yet, with a fresh approach, Bob Leatherbarrow is a name you won't forget, and a drummer/composer you can't!
