Quit stalling and see Bums,

This review is from: Bums (DVD)
I came to learn about the Butler Brothers through my excellent girlfriend Karen, who appears in Bums. Her performance was a shocker and fits perfectly into the world Butlers have created with seemingly effortless skill. The film is an engaging, hilarious, offbeat day in the life comedy that holds a skewed mirror up to your circle of friends and mine. Anyone who sees this is going to know someone like the people in this film, and its this familiarity that makes the characters and the story work. A really good piece of work from a very unique production company whose DIY attitude is a real inspiration for anyone out there interested in making movies. Or getting laid.

A Witty Celebration of Life as We Know It,
This review is from: Bums (DVD)
There has never been, in the history of indie film, a more witty, realistic expression of daily life. A chef-d'oeuvre, complete with artistic cinematography, provocative love scenes, and exceptional writing, "Bums" creatively captures the true grit of human relationships. Offering insightful dialogue, relatable characters, as well a slough of hilarious one-liners, "Bums" is clear proof that the Butler Brothers are true artists of their craft. We, as an audience, are reminded of what mainstream film is missing, as we develop a bond with the six very different, yet well-developped characters. We watch as they attempt to build relationships, and we and connect with them as they share laughs and insights. If you enjoy being drawn in to a film with brilliant dialogue, well-planned and captivating camera work, and interesting characters, "Bums" will become your new favorite film. There is no doubt that this film will soon find its place as a cult indie classic.

Funny, intriguing, and most importantly, realistic,
This review is from: Bums (DVD)
This was the first film I've seen by the Butler brothers, and I really enjoyed it. I'm glad there aren't more movies about an average day with every day characters, because then films like this will be over looked and, unfortunetly, not be enjoyed. This is an awesome film with great characters with a fully believable story. The dialogue is real and gives the film a relaxed, down to Earth feel. *****

I watched 'Alive and Lubricated' recently and was so blown away with it, I've since made a point of watching everything the Butler Brothers have produced and have become a bigger fan since! 'Bums' is an excellent addition to their list of movies. I thought the storyline was hilarious and the characters well developed and relatable. (...) If their track record is any indication so far, I cannot wait to see 'Oral Sex!'

After watching the Butler Bros indie debut Alive and Lubricated, I had to purchase BUMS. Great characters and extremely funny film. I watch it with friends and a few drinks before hitting the town. The filmmaker's commentary is hilarious. Highly recommended.

The reason we need independent films,

A great day in the life story, where you join characters' mid plotline. You're asked to care for them, asked to understand and love them despite their flaws. And you comply gladly, because the vulnerability is almost tangible. The humanity is beyond question. This film was also a fresh take on the "battle of the sexes" so to speak, fresh because for once it's shown how the same men and women are despite the differences, and because we see how the battle is not a battle at all but a dance. Bums is choreographed beautifully.

Bums was one of those films that I had to show to all of my friends. Bizarre, familiar, troubled life philosophies; great homage to pop culture that formed our generation; and plenty of wit. The characters are very real and some of the lines are classics on their own. A great way to prime up before playing the modern courting game. Much truth in the film.

Not being a fan of independant films I was quite skeptical while sitting down to watch "bums". I was captivated from the start by the stunning accuracy of the everyday drama that plays out between men and women. The dialogue revolving around relationships and sex was provacative and insightful. Finally a movie that puts men and women on an equal playing ground.Sara and Chris Thornton. |
