I first read this short book when I was in high school, and it meant a lot to me. I regularly wrote poetry at that time, and Leunig taught me to be heartfelt and sincere, yet simplistic. He does just that. He conveys so much in so few words.

What I love about this book is just that. At a cursory glance, it is simple and quaint. However, almost every short piece in this book is full of meaning and depth. That is the brilliance of Leunig. It will take you a matter of minutes to read your way through this book, but it will take years for it's impact and meaning to be fully realized. As such, I try to read through it at least once a year... if not more.
