4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Combo. Futon Pad Is Available.
We got this bed for my thirteen-year-old son. He loves it. Getting his bed off the floor has added tons of space to his bedroom. The pictures make it look like it would be crowded trying to fit all of that content beneath the bed, but it's not. It's actually rather spacious.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bunk review
This product was difficult to put together with the "tools" provided. The futon mattress was very hard to find and is not sold with the unit. THe bottom futon is not for everyday use. The futon is thin and difficult to find a cover for. Top bunk and desk are a great combo. Ok for one child not ok for two.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Combo. Futon Pad Is Available., January 4, 2011

We got this bed for my thirteen-year-old son. He loves it. Getting his bed off the floor has added tons of space to his bedroom. The pictures make it look like it would be crowded trying to fit all of that content beneath the bed, but it's not. It's actually rather spacious.

My son was worried that the ladder would "hurt my feet, like my old bunk bed." It doesn't. The steps are flat on top.

The futon is not physically connected to the bed, which I like. It allows you to turn it whichever way suits your application (e.g., towards the Xbox).

The instructions for assembling the bed and futon were typical of most furniture I've assembled. The hardware was contained in blister packs, which was nice because I felt certain that everything was there.

There were no instructions for assembling the small chair. It required a bit of deductive reasoning to figure it out, but it only took a few minutes. (Hints: The longer tubes connect the sides to each other. The shorter tubes connect the longer tubes to each other. The back connects to the sides using the sleeve-like nut things. The back tubes have free ends that point up, so you can slide the fabric down onto them like a director's chair.) My son didn't like the included casters, so we left them off.

The futon pad is available from any reseller of Coaster furniture. It is SKU 2335M. I paid $119 for it. It only comes in red. I had to wait two weeks to get it, but that may vary depending on the reseller.

Overall, we are pleased with our purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars My son loves this bunkbed, April 27, 2009

We purchased this loft bed for our early-teen son, he loves it. The futon size was hard to match, we got one too wide and thick, but it is working out as a lounge, not chair. It took a while to assemble, but was not hard, we all helped and it was done in a couple of hours. Our son was very happy with it, it suits his purpose and age, and will take him through his teen years. We would recommend it to anyone.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Deal with Some Challenges, April 26, 2011

Word to the wise: you'll need your own basic tools (an electric drill with allen bits, pliers or vise grips, hammer, screwdrivers) and a reasonable ability to use them if you're to get the most out of this thing, which really is a pretty good deal. And moderate physical conditioning is a must: the boxes weigh about 40lb. (the futon chair) and 70lb. (the main bed frame). Those conditions met, the assembly is fairly easy and straightforward, and the English language instructions are reasonably well done with a minimum of "Engrish" in them (everything is made in China). The convertible futon chair is, as other commenters have noted, a very odd size -- I'm intending to get some foam rubber and cut it to size (32" wide) then wrap it in cloth. The bed itself accepts a standard size futon twin. The steel is pretty good quality and the welds look solid, especially in the key places (where the mattress support goes into the frame ends); and the design is really very good, particularly the desk. One problem is the ladder, which is built upright into the frame -- a lot of parents prefer having an angled step-type ladder. I got this for a teenager, so the 90-degree climb is not such an issue.

The only completely defective parts in this thing were the desk chair's wheels, which are plastic and shattered almost on first use. It's mildly disappointing but hardly a deal-breaker given the quality of the rest of the unit. A quality product that would beat this thing would run around or above $1K in the stores, so $460 (I'm including the shipping cost) is a very good deal for what you get here, as long as you're willing to do some work and deal with a few compromises on quality.

Not a bad bed, I'm glad I bought a metal one, so I can take it apart and out it together whenever I want! Great bed for the price, like how it looks. I Bought mine from [...] because it was cheaper lol

Placed the order at 6pm on one day. Next morning at 6am attempted to cancel the order. No reply to first email. Finally replied to second email. Assessed a $10 cancellation fee. 3 days later charged my credit card the full amount. I sent an email. No response. Posted a negative feedback on Amazon. Next morning, received a phone call. The person told me that my refund would be processed minus the $10 charge ONLY after I deleted my negative response. I've waited to post this until my refund was received and will be watching my credit card to ensure they don't do something else. I wouldn't recommend ever shopping from this business.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad for the price, September 11, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Bunk Bed - Twin / Futon Workstation Bunk Bed in Black - Coaster
I researched loft beds for a long time before settling on this one. Originally, I settled on wooden one from Costco.com that had gotten really good reviews, but when the delivery company called me to tell me that the whole shipment was damaged (I ordered 2), I found myself back at square one.

Ultimately, I thought from a style perspective, this bed would outlast some other options through my kids' teen years. The futon feature was especially appealing, and I definitely wanted something with a built in desk. The one thing I was concerned about with any bed was the stability. As noted in some other reviews, this bed is a little wobbly, but not in a way that effects the integrity of the structure. I would have preferred something that wasn't so wobbly, but for this price, well, you get what you paid for, and ultimately, I have no regrets. I knew what I was getting and I am fine with the end result.

As mentioned, we ordered two beds, and my husband and a friend spent about 4 or 5 hours putting both together. It would have been nice if you could configure the desk/futon to go on different sides, but you can't. What you see in the pic is the only way to set it up. Important to keep in mind if there is only one way for you to set up the bed in a room.

And, as mentioned in numerous other reviews, the chairs are super cheap. The first time I sat in one of the chairs, the wheel broke off, so we just took them off the rest of the legs on both chairs.

If you want a loft bed, and don't want to spend a ton of money, this is a decent piece of furniture.
