5.0 out of 5 stars I can't believe I'm the only one to reveiw this movie!
This movie was a cartoon. An excellent cartoon. This movie was greatly altered from the book. TO altered, but the excellent animation makes up for that. A family called the Monroes finds a rabbit named Bunnicula. THey take it home as a pet. Harold the dog likes the little fellow, but Chester the cat thinks the rabbit is Dracula's pet, a vamipre rabbit.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good video for Reading teachers
This was a video to show my 5th grade class after we finished reading the novel together (before Halloween). Honestly, it was a great opportunity to compare/contrast different media versions of the "same" work because the video bore little resemblance to the book, and we ended up having a wonderful discussion (HINT, HINT writing prompt) about the similarities and...

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow, only one other review for such a fabulous film?!?, June 17, 2005

This is one of the BEST animated TV specials shown in the 80's. Based on the popular book of the same name, it keeps true to its origin. The animation is very good, the storyline wonderful, and it's more whimsical than you might think from the name. It's a great one for around Halloween, but still good for any time of the year. HIGHLY recommended.

Honestly, it was a great opportunity to compare/contrast different media versions of the "same" work because the video bore little resemblance to the book, and we ended up having a wonderful discussion (HINT, HINT writing prompt) about the similarities and differences in the two. It was typical VHS quality. Service was very prompt. I got what I paid for.

5.0 out of 5 stars I wish I owned a VCR...., July 11, 2011

Oh wow, I'm not sure why I searched for this, but now I want it; one of my favourite childhood memories is of how me and Dad would go to the little video store a few miles from where we lived and rent Bunnicula, every Friday night for a few years. Sadly the video store closed down and the other rental stores near us didn't stock it, and the video wasn't available to buy as the UK edition of the video was released in the late seventies.

Anyway, enough of my reminiscing: I watched the cartoon version before reading the book, so I didn't know how different the two versions are at the time. The video version is very reminiscent of Scooby Doo - the Monroe children even dressed like Shaggy and Fred.

I came across the book in a school sale after the video store closed down and can say that that version of the story is better, so if you love the book you might not be quite as impressed by the film.

This vhs video is a good cartoon version of the favored children's book: "Bunnicula". The story veers off from the book, but it's good, nonetheless.

2.0 out of 5 stars Cute, but not worth my time, February 29, 2008
This review is from: Bunnicula the Vampire Rabbit [VHS] (VHS Tape)
On its own, this was a cute, classically animated cartoon. It reminded me of Scooby Doo. However, as a teacher, I found it really upsetting that it wasn't true to the book. James and Deborah Howe did such a wonderful job with characterization, language, etc., that was lost in the video version. The plot was oversimplified in parts, and completely inaccurate in others. I was quite disappointed.
