Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

PreS-Gr 1-In a world awash with silvery foil, a little bunny writes a letter to Santa, wishing for a friend. When she misses the last Red Robin mail pickup, she decides to deliver her letter in person, and in the grandest tradition of folktales everywhere, shares her travel supplies with those in need, who repay her kindness with gifts and (one assumes) friendship. Painterly, preschool-friendly illustrations and a simple story about kindness rewarded-good enough. But oh, the foil on every spread! Sunglasses may be needed when sharing this story during daylight hours. A shiny additional purchase.-Mara Alpert, Los Angeles Public Libraryα(c) Copyright 2013. From Booklist

A solitary snow bunny asks one wish from Santa for Christmas: to have a friend. Off she goes to deliver her letter in person, carrying along a pair of warm mittens, some frosted cookies, and a map to Santa’s house. When she sees a little bear cub blowing on his cold, cold paws, she gives him her green mittens. Further along, a little fox cub has no ornament for the animals’ Christmas tree, so she gives him her Christmas cookies. And upon finding some fawns who are lost, she gives them—what else?—her map to find their path home. At journey’s end, Santa invites her on board his sleigh, and they whoosh through the starry night. Who is at her doorstep to wish her Christmas joy? All her newfound friends! The silver swirls, stars, and glittery clumps of snow throughout brighten the rich colors of the forest and its cuddly animals. Children will delight in this tender story showing how giving engenders friendship and love. Preschool-Grade 2. --Lolly Gepson --This text refers to an alternate Hardcover edition.

'Snow Bunny's Christmas Wish' is one of the most beautifully illustrated books I have seen this year. Glorious pictures with shining silver. I could not find the name of the illustrator, but kudos go to that person.

Snow Bunny is a very lonely bunny. She has one wish for. Christmas, and she tries to find Santa to tell him her wish. The story is so well written, the animals and the countryside come to life in the telling of the story. The author, Rebecca Henry, has a wonderful way with words that children and adults appreciate. The story is one with good lessons for all.

My granddaughter was given this book as a present by my daughter's bank. What a lovely present. This is one of the more beautiful Christmas books., with a wonderful message for all.

This is one of my favorite Christmas-themed books -- I was surprised to find that no one has written a review! With the holidays around the corner, I thought I should remedy this :).
PLOT: The story revolves around Snow Bunny who lives in a wintry forest. Because she is all alone she decides to write a letter to Santa to wish for a friend. It just so happens that she misses the postman and has to deliver the letter herself. On her way she comes across a number of animals in needs - Snow Bunny selflessly ignores her own needs and helps them out by handing out her possessions to them. Snow Bunny finally delivers her letter to Santa and gets to ride home on his sleigh. In the end she finds all of the animals that she helped along the way are waiting for her and have become her friends.

The story is accompanied by adorable pictures, which enhance the story and make it attractive to younger audiences. I am planning to use this book with my students in Speech Therapy, and will recommend it to the teachers at my school as well. The story level is appropriate for preschool through Kindergarten, but I think even 1st and 2nd graders might enjoy this story.

I own the hardcover version of this book, and the binding and pages are good quality. This is definitely a holiday favorite! I will keep an eye open for more books from this author!

My daughter saw this at a book fair and we put it on her wish list for later. It is an utterly charming little book about friendship, and the details in the illustrations are delightful. Definitely one to get in paper and not as an e-book. I would get this again for other children.
