I don't know why the video industry seems to have forgotten the pregnant population since the early 90's. Perhaps it is because most pregnant women are heading to the gym. Not all of us can do that, however, and many appreciate being able to work out at home when we feel like it rather than being gawked at by other gym-goers as though we are some sort of biological experiment.

First off, let me say I was a runner and personal trainer before becoming pregnant with twins, thus I am a pretty good judge ofan effective workout. Having tried and reviewed just about every other prenatal video out there, I found this one to be the best because

1) the aerobic segment lasts longer than 25 minutes and is not as easy as other video offerings

2) it includes a pretty effective lower body workout which increases in intensity as you add weight to your belly

3) is not as fabulously 80's as some of the other videos

I wish they would ban leotards in prenatal videos as well as Gloria Estefan instrumentals. Can we please get a video which doesn't include the instructor gushing about how happy she is to be pregnant? How annoying on those particularly hormonal days!

I would love a video which includes workouts of varying intensity for low-energy days and varying abilities. i would also love to see more modern music, outfits and hair than what is available considering the amount of times i spend watching these women.

This is a good workout for the second and third trimesters. The workout consists of a warm-up, 3 low-impact aerobics songs, a leg and butt workout, some abs and kegels, and a cooldown. I could definitely feel it on my thighs the next day, and the level of exhaustion seems appropriate for pregnancy (I exercised regularly before pregnancy and most of the first trimester - this is a good scaling down for the second trimester). You may need to add an additional 15 minutes of legwork at the end if you exercised before pregnancy.

The instructors and music date from the 80s, but it's still a good workout for pregnancy, and it helps that all the instructors seem to be in their third trimesters.

There's also a post-baby workout, which I haven't tried, but it seems challenging enough.

I am about 7 months pregnant and have been keeping pretty fit this pregnancy.

This morning, I tried Buns of Steel for Pregnancy. So funny. It must have been from the late 80's, early 90's. The set was pepto bismol pink, looks like it could be the atrium of some sort of really really cheesy museum, complete with columns and a really ugly painting. The three pregnant ladies doing the workout were wearing leotards, and the leader was wearing nylon-type skin tone tights. The two "back-up" exercisers are kind of funny looking - one of them has a really ugly lace headband on top of super poofy hair, and the other one looks like she could be Sara Michelle Geller's less fortunate cousin. They did not speak at all. Headband chick did some light modifications (basically just skipping some arm movemnts). I would guess that they are all in their late 2nd/early 3rd trimesters.

After a brief introduction, there is a 10 minute warm-up (light aerobics, some stretching). It is pretty good, with not much choreography.

Then, there is a 15 minute aerobic section, with 3 routines... they are all pretty good, with some more complicated choreography. I admit, I got messed up a couple of times, but nothing crazy, I am just completely inept at choreography. They stop a couple of times for heartrate checks, and "How are you feeling?" checks. All in all, pretty good, and went fast.

At the end, there is a 10 minute toning section and a 5 minute stretch. The toning is all squats, etc, with no weights. I would have liked some weights, but I guess it is buns of steel, and that is what it is going to focus on.

So - would I do it again? Maybe..

Would I recommend it to others? Probably not.

I didn't like this DVD at all. I felt like I was doing an arobics class from the 80s. I don't think she focused enough on being pregnant, like some of the other Pre-natal workouts do and I won't do this program again. I don't feel like it was helping me to get ready for delivery. It was a waste of money and time. I think I was fooled by the Buns Of Steel name.

The choreography and work out in this DVD is eerily similar to the Kathy Smith pregnancy workout DVD, at least in the prenatal section. I have both DVDs and that was not the best use of my money. the workout is ok, at least some cardio, but the cuing is prety fast paced and some of the arm movements seem needlessly complicated and off-beat.

I think this is a pretty good video. I fell kind of silly doing it because the instructor is kind of cheesy, but it's a good light workout. I alternate this video with the Perfect Pregnancy workout (has a much better toning section, but no aerobics) and I feel like I'm getting a pretty good variety.

I bought this DVD because I wanted to avoid gym during the flu breakout and still wanted to get some exercise. Another reason was to get some pregnancy specific workout rather than generic cardio exercise. I have been working out along with it for 2 weeks now and am pretty happy with it.
I have always been a little slow on picking up coordinated moves, so if I can do it I guess anybody can do it.
The only reason I have given 4 stars and not 5 is that I have never worked out with a DVD before, so I don't have a reference to compare this one with. But as far as getting a little exercise and having fun goes - I'm pretty happy with this one. About how much it will help in the labor and post natal fitness, I'll have to come back later and edit this review after I deliver.
