5.0 out of 5 stars Fast, effective, and fun workout
This workout tape is one of my favorites.. The cues are solid, the instructor is upbeat but not obnoxious, and this 30 minute workout is challenging, but fun. The routine is split into 10 minute segments that mimic different motions (inline skating, martial arts, and ballet), and you can really feel this workout afterward. I highly recommend this to anyone looking...

3.0 out of 5 stars Hair of Steel!
This workout tape featured the most obnoxious instructor in the entire world. When she started singing "buns on sunshine" along with Katrina and the Waves' "Walking on Sunshine," well, it was too much. Her hair is long and sprayed in place--it does not move during the course of the workout. And she's "all about" being YOUR friend. The...

I bought this tape mainly for toning. I did not need to lose weight but wanted to shape up after having two children. I agree with other reviewers that this really is a good overall lower body workout. I felt stronger and could see muscle definition in my legs after a month of doing this video 2-3 times a week. Yes, the instructors are peppy and the music is a bit cheesy, but I found the workout itself to be worth the money I spent on the video. I also like this particular tape because it is only 30 minutes long and I have time to do the workout and jump in the shower while my kids are napping. My only complaint is that the tape itself is poor quality. I returned it twice and just decided to live with it when the third copy came the same way (the static bars show up from time to time and no amount of tracking adjustment seems to get rid of them) I've read other complaints about this feature so they must be coming from the company this way.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great and Effective !!!, September 9, 2001

This is a 30 minute video for "buns" but really is a lower body workout. It is an intermediate level of intensity but you need to have really good balance to perform all the moves without a chair for support. I'm actually fond of this video as all the exercises are done standing and they are all derived from sports specific moves. (EG- skating/rollerblading, kickboxing, ballet.) I find that the balance that you have to maintain to do the moves has actually helped me in doing my kick-boxing class and yoga, since a number of stabalizers are worked. The workout consists of a brief warm-up then a the basic squats, forward/rear lunges and then some plyo lunges. After this there are three 8 minute segments of sport-oriented toning. The first segment is from skating. You squat then push one leg out away from your body lifting it about 7 inches off the floor for one side several times, then the other. It increases by having you do double-skates and then pulsing up for 5. In between these your back is given a rest by doing rear lunges. The second section is kick-boxing oriented. You start in "horse-stance" which is the same as a deep plie, and return to this spot between each kick. First you do side kicks (but in slow mode) and then rear kicks (also in slow mode). It's the slow mode that challenges the balance and muscle a lot. Then the end of this section has faster round-house kicks to shake out your legs. The last section is ballet-oriented and you start with plies, then a plie and dragging a leg in 16 times each leg (this is repeated). Then you maintain the plie and raise your heel on one side and the next. Then you raise both heals and hold this position, and you then rise up and down several times. After this you do a cool down and stretch. The music is pretty good, and the production is pretty good as well, much better than previous buns of steel. I definately will keep this one mostly because it is a good short toning workout and it has that added bonus of working stabalizers too.

Ps..I don't know what this other person is talking about when she mentions that the Instructer had "hair of steel" she must have been watching some other tape. I found Robin to be motivaing and pleasant, one minor thing was that she had a strong NY accent. Remember,"Variety is a spice of life"...

4.0 out of 5 stars 30 minutes of sports like moves, September 9, 2001

This video consists of 3 segments, based on in-line skating, martial arts, and ballet. Rather than a 'buns' workout, I felt it really works my legs, especially inner thighs. I don't really feel like the in-line skating section is a challenge, but the martial arts and ballet sections make you work. I think this is a great lower body work out, with adequate warm up and cool down. (30 minutes long)
Instructor comments: Robin leads this one. She and the other girls are really peppy and keep you motivated; you can tell she is really into the work out. If you can't handle peppiness and smiley happy instructors, don't bother!

4.0 out of 5 stars Overall, a Good Workout, October 15, 2002
This review is from: Buns of Steel: Target Toning Workout [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I LOVE that it is only 30 minutes long! Exercising has never been a joy for me. Getting noticable results from a short workout is a big plus! I agree with other people about the static bar on the bottom of the screen, it just won't go away. Other than that it's a decent tape. It dosen't make you feel like checking the clock to see when the torture will be over. It quickly produces muscle definition, unlike some other tapes. I give it four stars because of the static.

The music is better than the original "Buns" series, and the moves, if you hate floor work, are okay. She's found five great moves, and you will do them over and over during this workout. It makes you appreciate Tamilee and the original series.
