Book Description

May 14, 2010
Being a woman in today's world means wrestling--physically, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally--with lots of weighty struggles. Lifestyle mentor Michele Howe and orthopedic surgeon Christopher Foetisch offer a well-rounded "training manual" filled with inspirational insight and practical advice for handling life's toughest battles with inner and outer strength. Thematic chapters begin with Howe's trademark real-life vignettes and essays on personal and situational topics: loss, sorrow, aging, job displacement, divorce, parenting issues, financial setbacks, illness, and more.

Women will identify with the experiences of other women, and how each found and developed the emotional and spiritual strength to meet the challenges she faced. Foetisch then provides practical weight-bearing "exercises" for body and soul health, and information on staying strong and well, no matter your age or circumstances. Valuable take-away action thoughts, meaningful quotations, and concluding Scripture verses complete the "workout."

Women will be delighted and surprised at the recommendations, choices, and options available to them. They'll discover new ways of dealing with old problems and develop the multifaceted fitness they need to fearlessly face all of life's challenges.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Howe and Foetisch offer a unique blend of inspiration and practicality in their first book collaboration. Howe, a women's lifestyle writer (Still Going It Alone) and PW reviewer, provides the inspirational flavor as she taps into the many personal and situational life challenges women face. Foetisch, an orthopedic surgeon, adds the weight-bearing exercises—health tips and practices—to heighten each chapter's healing potential. Paired are such subjects as regret and the impact of stress on surgery recovery; parental behavior and handling disrespect; aging and good life habits. Occasionally a disconnect occurs between topic and accompanying exercise (hopelessness and rotator cuff tears, for example), but there are nuggets of truth throughout. Readers will find themselves in at least one of the 30 life challenges and discover new ways of dealing with old problems. (May)

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a MUST read !! May 4, 2010
Format:Paperback
Michele Howe has a way of making the reader visualize exactly what she is saying. She gives genuine, realistic, easy to obtain and down to earth advice for various situations one may be having within their own life.
It's somewhat like a 'Life's Challenge Today' type of referencing book. She accentuates the positives in every chapter and closes them with quotes from the book of Psalms that not only reverts back to each chapter, but enhances them!!
I highly recommend this outstanding book to any and everybody, whether you are in need of strong, solid advice; or those eloquent and beautifully placed scriptures; or you just want an absolutely fantastic book for your own reading pleasure; and/or you might want to give as a gift to a friend or two. You won't go wrong with this book!! Thank you Michele & ~God Bless!~

When I just hear the word burden, my shoulders automatically drop. However, this book put a new twist to my stance! In fact every time I read the title, I'm reminded; how I choose to carry my life circumstances will be the weight bearing on my shoulders. I love the author's EASY to read & understand layout of this message. I was surprised and delighted in how much I enjoyed this book. I also would confidently give it to anyone, religious or not, knowing there is no way this work would be anything less then helpful. Frankly, the tag of a scripture verse at the end of the chapter is a good measure for others to reference in their spiritual views. My co-worker already borrowed my copy. This insight can make a difference in your personal (you) and situational (others) life challenges. Very helpful. Thank you Michelle Howe
