5.0 out of 5 stars Third Person RTS - So glad I played this!! October 9, 2014
Verified Purchase
I had read discouraging reviews about this game, but I was a big fan of XCOM: Enemy Unknown and the price on the Bureau had dropped low enough that I was willing to take the chance. I am so glad I did. I KILLED this game and enjoyed every moment.

I beat the entire game on the easiest setting and then ran through and beat it on the hardest the same week I got it.

If you have played the last XCOM game, it is similar. Strategically placing your soldiers and choosing what abilities they should use is key. It is not turn-based and the game is third-person which keeps the action going and is quite engaging. The money-making aspect from the last game is not here, and honestly, it was a welcome relief. There are plenty of side missions to help bolster your team and earn you some needed equipment.

This is one of my favorite games that I played this year!

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent game June 25, 2014

It's a decent game. You'll notice anyone who is a huge fanboy of XCOM will hate this game because it doesn't really fit neatly into the XCOM universe, nor does it really play like an XCOM game. However, if you can get past that, it is a decent third person shooter that plays a lot like combat in Mass Effect 3. If you are looking for a decent shooter to spend sometime with for under $15 I would definitely recommend this.

I generally dont leave reviews but some times you feel things get underrated. Im and older gamer, CoD has its place but I prefer a good singler player campaign. Thats a bit of a rarity these days, but this had a fun solid story with good tight gun play and characters. Im not going into the story its self explanatory, aliens attack your our best hope etc. So if your more mature gamer give it a chance, I also feel price should be considered ,60$ 3 stars 12$ 4 stars for sure.

2.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely no replay value November 23, 2014
This game has an interesting premise; its the 1960s and an alien invasion comes to Earth. A secret group, XCOM, is the world's last defense and you're playing the main character, William Carter. That's where the fun ends.

Its a third person shooter, but you constantly have to go into Battle Mode to control not only yourself but the other two agents that are always with you. So every mission feels much longer than it should, even the minor missions. You can rank up fellow agents, but while I was playing I really found that I liked two agents because of their skills over the others and once I had everyone ranked up to their max, kept using the two that I liked the most. When you're deploying the special abilities, its annoying because in order to place something, you have to move the item as if you were walking around verses just moving something into its spot. Its stupid.

Pretty much after every mission, you end up back at XCOM base where you can run around to certain areas and talk to certain NPC which they may or may not open up a new mission. Also the voice work is really lame, half the time I can't tell if the main guy is shocked, mad, joking...its all the same voice. Also the animation for when Carter is talking to someone is awkward, he's always crossing his arms and hitting his one arm with is hand. That isn't a normal stance for anyone.

Play it once, and then sell it because you'll never have a reason to pop the disk back in again.

Play it on easy for a more fun, run and gun style of play. Otherwise, don't bother.
