5.0 out of 5 stars Burger Boy is a American Grade A hit!
I am a K-2 Reading Specialist and Mom of 2. Kids just love this book! I think everyone can relate. I took little candy hamburgers to class when reading this book. It was fun to try them if you dare.....

1.0 out of 5 stars Great book, Terrible Kindle version
My son loves this book but we both hate the Kindle version. He likes to touch the pictures in order to count the dogs etc and he can't do this because the screen changes. Because the text comes out so small, it is repeated in a larger font, which means that the text doesn't always match the picture on the screen, the words are repeated twice or even three times, making...

4.0 out of 5 stars A delightful tale..., December 28, 2006
This review is from: Burger Boy (Hardcover)
What did your mother always tell you about only eating one kind of food? You'd turn into it, of course!

And that is exactly what happens to Benny in BURGER BOY. After eating too many burgers, he becomes one, and is harassed by dogs, cows, boys and a restaurant owner - until his mother rescues him and he changes his diet.

BURGER BOY, written by Alan Durant and illustrated by Mei Matsuoka, is a delightful tale, with a neatly hidden message: eat your veggies! Parents are sure to be as delighted by BURGER BOY as their child. Kids will love the funny tale and cute illustrations, while parents will secretly hope BURGER BOY may just convince their children to eat more vegetables.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read aloud, December 2, 2010
This review is from: Burger Boy (Hardcover)
This is one of my favorite books to read aloud to kindergarteners and first graders.
Some sit with their mouths open in disbelief and the end cracks them all up. Highly recommended for all young children (and adults will love it too).

1.0 out of 5 stars Great book, Terrible Kindle version, July 8, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Burger Boy (Kindle Edition)
My son loves this book but we both hate the Kindle version. He likes to touch the pictures in order to count the dogs etc and he can't do this because the screen changes. Because the text comes out so small, it is repeated in a larger font, which means that the text doesn't always match the picture on the screen, the words are repeated twice or even three times, making it so that you have to read ahead to figure out where you left off, and it's just plain hard to follow the story. An exercise in frustration; I'll be buying him a hard copy.

Oh, and I disagree with a previous reviewer who said this was a vegan propaganda book. The real message behind the book is that eating only veggies is just as bad as eating only burgers, or any other food. At the very end of the story, the protagonist turns into a carrot, and is chased by a mean, hungry pink bunny :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious book for your child (and yourself!), January 28, 2010
This review is from: Burger Boy (Hardcover)
Burger Boy is a hilarious story of a child who finds himself in a horrible situation, that his mother had been warning him about. Benny only eats cheeseburgers and eventually turns into one. The illustrations and story line are hilarious. Your child will laugh and you will laugh as well. To the person who said this book is "vegan propaganda". I think you are taking it a little bit too serious. Remember it is a childrens book, kids understand that books are not always real. When a child is read the childrens book, "Pinkalicious" where a girl eats only pink cupcakes until she turns pink, they don't really believe that next time they eat pink cupcakes the same thing is going to happen to them. It's all in fun, so relax.

4.0 out of 5 stars Silly, but often requested, June 2, 2009

We first obtained this as a library book. I purchased it to give to my 5 year old daughter as a surprise gift in the future. It is silly, but very appealing to the pre-school set.

5.0 out of 5 stars Benny LOVES burgers!, November 26, 2007

Benny is a boy that knows what he likes to eat. Why have healthy stuff like fruits and vegetables when you can eat burgers!

His mother warns him "If you don't watch out, you'll turn into a burger one day."

The prophesy happens while at his favorite restaurant Bigga Burger. A dog comes by sniffing and his mother screams "Run, Benny, run!"

The race is on! Chased by dogs, cows, and hungry boys; he learns his lesson!

Well until he starts eating proper but will only eat vegetables!

My girl likes this books so far. She especially likes the artwork and the bunny at the end of the book!

So far two for two from this author. Dear Santa Claus is still a favorite!

5.0 out of 5 stars for all burger lovers, April 6, 2008
By
M. Tanenbaum (Claremont, CA USA) - See all my reviews

In this hilarious cautionary tale, we encounter Benny, a small boy who hates vegetables and will only eat hamburgers. When his mother's warning comes true, and he turns into a hamburger, he is chased all over town by dogs, cows, and boys. When his mother finally catches up to him and brings him home, he vows never to eat another burger. The surprise ending will amuse young children, and the running Benny may remind some readers of the famous tale of the gingerbread boy, although with an altogether different ending. The quick-moving story is enhanced by the humorous, cartoon-like quality of the water color illustrations, which fits well with the silliness of the narrative. This cartoon-like aspect is also emphasized by the use of balloons for much of the dialogue. The two-page spread in which Benny slowly morphs from boy to cheeseburger is especially creative. Highly recommended for ages three and up; this story should appeal to children all the way through third or fourth grade, and makes an excellent read-aloud for preschool or elementary school children.

If you want to teach kids to be Vegans, read them this book. The cows running after Bennie are crying, "Don't you know what hamburgers are made of?" Then at the end, Benny swears off ever eating hamburgers and only eats vegetables. No moderation in this book.
