5.0 out of 5 stars A+ from a parent
My kids got this game as a Christmas gift and they have played it and fought over it ever since. I've been extremely impressed by 2 things: ALL four of my kids, from 6 through 11, boys and girls, love this game; and it (incredibly) doesn't involve shooting, killing or otherwise violently eliminating any sort of opponent. While it's not violent, it doesn't appear too...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good way to kill time, but not as great as Diner Dash or Cake Mania
I've liked this and it gets tough the further you go! But the graphics are pretty small so it makes it hard to see what you're doing. It also doesn't give you options to hop around to different levels. All in all I'd recommend it though!

While it's not violent, it doesn't appear too juvenile, which would turn off my older kids. They all love to show me and each other what they're doing (instead of playing in silence) and they're happy to reach new levels. It also seems easy enough to save their score so they can stop when I ask them to and they can restart later. So... lots of fun, challenging, no violence, wide range of ages, and even a great price - bonus!

4.0 out of 5 stars Challenging and Fun, January 2, 2009
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Burger Island (Video Game)
As another reviewer mentioned, this game is alot like Cake Mania and Diner Dash. I think it is a little more interesting because there is more variety in the things you make. You must remember the recipe for each order and make them in that exact order or the customer will not buy it and of course there is a time limit.

There are several different recipes you can unlock and buy for each category of burgers, fries, and milkshakes. It can get pretty intense. I think to make it harder, they should have made the player to be able to judge when the fries are done frying and the burgers cooking. Instead when you cook a burger or put the fries in the oil they will say done when hey are ready. You will never be making all 3 categories at the same time..in one level you will be doing just fries, just milkshakes, or just burgers. If all categories were merged in each level, the game would be a litle more challenging and fun.

You get 5 lives so if you do not reach your goal in the level you lose a life which is different than Cake Mania and Diner Dash. The only real problem I see is that the ingrediants are kind of small and close together so you can end up hitting the wrong thing on accident and ruining the recipe. Also touching the item does not always register which again can cause you to ruin the order. It's not a huge deal and does not make the game unplayable.

It can be very repetitive but will keep you on your toes due to the different difficulty levels (kiddie size, regular, and jumbo size) and variety. You do not get to purchase things for upgrades with your money..only buy new recipes. After a certain point the resaurant will be upgraded on its own. It's a very fun and entertaining and worth the $20 but no more than that. he graphics and sounds are also pretty decent.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nintendo DS Burger Island review, August 24, 2009
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Burger Island (Video Game)
Not sure about everyone else....but I'm on the easiest level and ..........whew!!!! It is definitely challenging! You have to make burgers as ordered (which is nice and easy at first) and as you progress, there are MORE burgers and ingredients added that have to be put on in a specific order or else your food is wasted and your customer leaves. And that isn't the end of it!!! Not only do you have to remember HAMBURGER recipes.......you also have to make french fries (and then various specialty flavored french fries)......and then milk shakes (and a whole bunch of specialty milk shakes). This game (at least for me) is challenging and I find myself thinking of burger recipes as I'm falling asleep at night. If you are on the fence about buying it.....I would recommend getting it. It's as fun and addictive as it is sometimes frustrating. If you like cake mania and diner dash.....you'll probably like this game. :0)

I have no idea why I love this game so much. Probably for the same reason I loved waitressing on a Friday night. Absolute chaos, but in my mind I had everything under control. I knew exactly what I needed to do and planned the shortest route to get everything accomplished. I find that rewarding. This is a brain game. You get into a groove, a train of thought, like a machine. Not everyone could do this game.

You have 10 recipes of burgers, each with different toppings placed on them in a specific order. You have to put the patties on the grill, then put the cooked patties on the buns and then correct toppings on each burger. So, you have to memorize each recipe and time-manage cooking the burgers, fixing them up and getting them to the impatient customers.

By the end levels you have to multi-task plus plan way ahead so you can cut corners by placing one topping on two burgers, but you have to be in the correct place for topping, one burger may have tomato as the last ingredient, another may have it as a middle ingredient. And you have less and less time to get more and more accommplished.

It's the same with fries and shakes.

As with all these games, it's a collossal waste of time. But I'm sure it staves off Alzheimers and for some reason, I find it SO FUN!

4.0 out of 5 stars Very fun, but very difficult, January 1, 2009

I really liked this game, it was fun but it was a challenge.
This game is like Cake Mania and Diner Dash, but much more difficult. You are basically doing the same thing as in those games, but in Burger Island, you MUST do things in certain steps and chronoligically, otherwise your order is ruined and you don't get the sale.
As you progress, you can buy new recipes but each new recipe you purchase requires more steps, and more work. So it takes a lot of memorization to sort out all your recipes and fill the orders as they come in.
As with other service games of this type, if you're not quick enough, you will lose the customer therefore, not making the sale. If you do not reach the sales goal for that shift, you lose a life and have to replay that shift.
This is a great game, much more challenging than Cake Mania or DD, so beware. I started out in the regular (middle) level, thinking I could handle it. But after failing miserably, I switched to "Kiddie Size" (easiest) level and I still struggle to finish the levels, remember the recipes and reach the goals!
So, since it is much more challenging, it is also much more fulfilling when you beat it, I'm not quite there yet, but I'm getting there and having fun doing it! My only complaint is that when you are trying to move quickly, sometimes the DS screen does not respond like you want it to. You might think you tapped an ingredient, but you didn't and therefore, your recipe and order is ruined. This is a common gripe with a lot of DS games though, so you MUST be careful and pay attention to every order and ingredient you select.
A great game, but I think it is more for adults than children. It just goes too fast and you HAVE to be quick and have a knack for remembering patterns. But it is a great game nonetheless, highly recommended!

I got Burger Island from the recommendation on Amazon because I had purchased Diner Dash and Cake Mania 2. It's a little different from the other 2 games, you are actually making the food instead of serving. As stated before it does get a little difficult when more items are added to the recipe and some things are so close that you hit the wrong thing. (ex, when making fries you hit bacon when you want ketchup) I would watch out for that. Also, a couple of times either my game froze or there is something wrong with my ds because I would hit an item and it would not respond, at this time I would either need to restart or go to the main menu. All in all though the game was really challenging and fun, I would definetly recommend it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Can be tedious, May 17, 2009
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Burger Island (Video Game)
This game was lots of fun in the beginning but as you progress you can create more complicated burgers, fries & shakes. I found that the ingredients were small and very close together. I would tap the ketchup & end up ruining the burger because the bacon got selected instead.

And as another reviewer mentioned the items don't always register when you tap them which again can cause you to ruin the order. I found it to be a big problem and the game being highly frustrating.

You may not find it to be an issue (the other reviewer didn't) but I wouldn't recommend this game for a kid.

Update: May 31st

I finally beat the game. I actually removed my screen protector because it looked worn and it helped a lot. I was able to beat the game again a few days later. It still selected the wrong item on occasion, but not nearly as much. Overall fun - the burger levels are my favorite.

I love action adventure games! This game place exactly like the computer version (except that you touch the items on the screen instead of using your mouse!). One great bonus is that you can save three games at once so you and your friends can play at the same time. Another great bonus is that there are three levels of play; kiddie size, regular size, and jumbo size. I can only hope now that they develop a version for the Wii.
