Very topical to start with December 20, 2011

Format:Kindle Edition
I received this book free to read and review.
At the beginning this story is almost too realistic with the current economic situation there must be many people just managing to survive on their income. The two main characters in this story Devon and his wife Jenna would have been OK if Devon's expected promotion and bonus had come good but when it didn't their debts spiraled out of control while trying to keep up appearances. Up to this point about 30% on the Kindle scale it would have been a 5* book, in my opinion, the characters are well described and you can feel for them both having their own point of view that does not quite align. One of the strengths of this novel is that the author has not introduced a large cast and although the plot is quite straight forward it is a descriptive work which works well. I would have enjoyed the book more if this theme had continued but without giving the plot away the rest of the book just does not seem as plausible however still a good read which explores a topical theme which develops perhaps to the extremes that people do not usually go to try and cope with debt.

I felt the weight February 19, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This is one big spoiler, so be careful reading this. "Buried By Debt" was a surprise. One expects mysteries to follow formulas that we have learned from reading mysteries over the years. This one is different. The focus of the story is truly being "Buried By Debt". The victim appears only briefly and after that only as the subject of discussions. Instead the reader feels the weight that is crushing Devon. It's the weight of debt, a house he can't afford and a wife that he idolizes and indulges. He indulges Jenna to the point that he will take all of the blame even though Jenna helps him to hide his crime. Devon's victim is literally buried by his debt and Devon's entire life becomes figuratively buried by his debt. It was different and I really enjoyed it.

I received a complimentary copy of this book for review purposes. I would have paid to read it.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, "Buried by Debt" by Cathryn Grant in exchange for a review. This book was extremely boring. The first third of the book was good with descriptions of characters and setting but got redundant. It became very annoying to continually read, in detail each time, how the main characters Devon and Jenna loved each other and how obsessive they were about each other, as well as the whining about being in debt but taking no "real" steps in fixing their situation. I felt no sympathy for these characters on being in debt especially with the amount of money they made yet still wanted to keep up appearances with their "rich" friends. I really didn't like these characters and had a terrible time in finishing the book, all the while hoping that the book would get better. The end of the story was predictable and some of the things that happened in the book were just unrealistic. I don't believe that I would read another book from this author.
