The book discusses "Finding your own range of motion", and "Training instinctively", but only a few specific examples on certain exercises. I don't feel I have enough information to now go and create my own routine, as directed to in the book.

Many, in fact most, of the training information written and available, whether it's a book or a newsstand magazine, are written with a younger audience in mind...to witness the "Masters Class" category of building which starts at the age of 35.

Anyone interested in starting training after that age was left to founder around in information written with younger, often chemically enhanced, readers in mind. Certainly a recipe for unavoidable injuries or, at least, a good deal of time wasted in the gym and on daily macronutrient intake.

Along comes Paul Burke's book which sets basically everything on it's ear.

Outlined are training schedules for weightlifting, bodywork other than weights with the focus of mobility and longevity in mind and a method of creating a dietary plan that guarantees stable energy levels, fat loss and strength gains. To call the book sensible makes it seen average and boring...it is anything but that. It is much overdue new thinking and action for anyone over forty looking to start training and would prove an invaluable time and money saver for trainers of any age willing to tune out the current glut of misguided routines, eating patterns and unachievable goals. A willingness to follow a plan that at first glance would seem to simple to be effective is all that is necessary. No gimmicks or miracles...just hard work, determination balanced with active rest.

Burke also shares details of his personal medical struggles and how they have been held at bay through his continuing efforts. These make all the more potent his message and how it can apply to anyone.

I can wholeheartedly and without reservation recommend this book to anyone, man or woman. It is money well spent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great help, June 19, 2008
I have read Paul's book and knew instinctively he was absolutely correct. His training methodology does not emphasize how much more weight I can lift today but about form and technique. It is geared not just for those over 40 but for everyone. I really appreciate Paul's honesty about drug use in the industry and also how we can all reach our potential without using drugs. Muscle and fitness magazine routines or the latest craze will not work but will probably hurt you. Paul teaches about the uniqueness of our genetics and a routine has to be tailored to those genetics. I would tell any serious lifter to pay the money and use this guy, you WILL NOT be disappointed. I have had the opportunity to get training with Paul one on one. Simply put it was worth 10 times what I paid. It has revolutionized my training. I owe an awful lot to Paul

5.0 out of 5 stars Paul Burke Breaks The Mold And Finally Tells The Truth, November 28, 2007

This review is from: Burke's Law: A New Fitness Paradigm For The Mature Male with DVD insert (Paperback)
I have trained for over 20 years. Being both a Competitive bodybuilder and Jiu Jitsu Instuctor I have seen just about every training modality. All have left me sore and overtrained. Burke's Law finally shed some light on how REAL people train who don't need dangerous drugs and want to feel great well into their senior years. In fact, I enjoyed the book so much that I contacted him personally and had him construct an EXACT regimen for me that included everything I wanted to get better at!

I could only give this book 5 stars because that's all the rating would allow. It's really an 11. It truly has changed the way I look at exercise and how I feel every single day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality and practical book, a must buy for mature bodybuilders, July 8, 2008
I'm 56 and relatively a novice at weight lifting/body building. Burke's Law is a well written read. Many myths and philosophies I had heard at the gym or read before in articles/magazines have been debunked or proven correct. Most valuable is Burke's Law in regards to total muscle fatigue. Makes one realize all of the old rules on "X" number of reps and sets, with different weights, etc. may not be necessary. Buy this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Definitive source to building and maintaining a great body: Naturally!, June 4, 2006

This is a great book for anyone wanting to begin body builing, or take it to the next level, Naturally! Paul Burke is an amazing individual who walks the walk. He shares with his readers the history of the sport, as well as current trends. The book goes on to explain how to custom fit a program of exercises to your particular body type, deal with and prevent injuries common to body building, and of course, eating to build muscle and burn that fat! Paul has a great website (www.Paul-Burke.com) to provide additional information about his methods of training. If you had to buy just one book on the subject, this is it!

Among other things, I found that Burke's Law contains the best disucssion I've ever seen regarding how muscle development is directly related to correct stimulation, nutrition and rest.

4.0 out of 5 stars "Read it twice", June 22, 2007
I found this book to very helpful in understanding the origin of the human physique and how our bodies work today. Although it can be a tough read. The book clearly defines where we've been and where we need to go in order to achieve our fitness goals. I found that if you read it twice and take the first reading as enjoyment, as if you were reading a history book, then when you come back to it the second time it will reveal a lot more information on what you need to take away from it. Now it is written by a fitness expert and that is clearly evident just in the first few pages so if you are trying to pick this up and expecting a miracle, forget it. If you have never been in a gym before you need to consider a personal trainer and dietician to help explain the process. As well, this would be a good safety measure, in that, you don't want to just walk into a gym and think you can just go to it. This book is designed for the man "dedicated to a life style change"! If you want instant results for a date this weekend go see a plastic surgeon. But if you are dedicated to a lifestyle change that will enhance your life, your day to day energy, you daily body performance and a sharper mind that comes with a fit body, then this is "The Book" for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Healthy Law, May 30, 2006
Burke's Law, the book and the paradigm, reminds me of the adage, "When the student is ready, the teacher will appear". Its principles are logical, solid and completely relevant for everyone, addressing our physiological, physical and psychological needs as a race and as individuals. It is a handy manual for a healthy mind and body.

5.0 out of 5 stars A "must have" manual for the mature fitness enthusiast!, June 5, 2006
This is by far the most unbiased, candid, yet comprehensive references I have read on the subject of building natural health and fitness. It is the only such reference that I am aware of for the mature male. Paul tears down old paradigm ways of thinking that inhibit most progress, then rebuilds your knowledge base with a creative, fresh, out of the box thinking style. He accomplishes this with his vast technical knowledge of multiple facets of bodybuilding, nutrition and biochemistry, but in an easily understandable format. His personal experiences add a special touch that can only come from someone who truly cares about those he teaches. Thanks Paul!
