1.0 out of 5 stars Burley d'lite double
This is my first bike trailer. I absolutely needed a double. If you put two children in this trailer they slope to the middle like a bad mattress and their back has no support so they are hunched over. There is NO recline as advertised. It bounces the cheeks off these poor children, whatever "suspension" is in this trailer is of no use. Don't spend $550 on this trailer, I...

This review is from: Burley D'Lite Bike Trailer (Sports)
My husband and I just purchased new bikes (Scott - Sportsters) and we have a two year old daughter that we needed a trailer for. Every bike shop we visited stood behind the Burley brand. I have to admit I did not like the price tag, but after going home and doing my research I can totally see why the Bike shops all recommend the Burley D'Lite. It is very easy to assemble, very easy to tow and simple to collapse and store. It is made with quality material and has a sharp look to it. The seats inside are padded to absorb the shock of bumpy rides, the circulation was perfect (we saw my daughter's hair dance in the wind) and there is plenty of room in the back for a backpack, picnic lunch etc. Better yet my daughter loved it! She was so comfy that she fell asleep half way through our 12 mile ride. The D'lite can accommodate two children up to 100lbs, so we can still use it when baby #2 comes along.

What really sold us on the Burley over all the other brands was the resale value. We scoured eBay and Craiglist before buying a new one and found that the used Burleys were only slightly cheaper. I e-mailed one Craigslist seller only to find out she had several other interested buyers and I would have to be part of a bidding war. So we decided to purchase a new one, use it for a few years and get a good portion of our money back with resale.

5.0 out of 5 stars really nice!, November 10, 2008

It's a burley. . . that is really all i should have to say. We were thinking of buying a used one but found out about the upgrades to the interior so we investigated the new ones. . . they now have a 3 point harness inside and then a lap belt that goes over top. with a 9 month old we determined that we just may get back to biking sooner if we could strap her in really well. . . the 3 year old would have been fine with either. the interior is really nice and padded and the padding for the shoulder straps looks comfy. our only problem is the baby really seems to HATE her helmet. . .

the 3 year old wants to ride all day every day! can't wait for the baby to catch up!

It is a well made very nice product - i have a friend that owns a REALLY old one and it is holding up just fine. This is something that i plan on having for a VERY long time. i wasn't looking for a bargain, i want the safest trailer out there and that is why i bought a Burley.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic purchase, April 27, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
My wife and I were looking for a trailer that could carry our 15 month year old daughter. She initially baulked at the price, until she realised that the resale value here in Australia will almost be the same as the purchase price.

We purchased this trailer for the following reasons
-- great quality
-- recessed space for helmet
-- suspension and reclined seat.

The price here in Australia was over $1000 RRP, so too expensive to buy brand new here. It took 3 days to deliver which I thought was incredible. It came in one box, and once opened it took about 10 minutes to read through the manual and setup. Brilliant design and once you have a closer look at the materials, you can easily tell it's top quality.

We've taken our daughter out once in it and she's loved it. Very easy to use and unclip, the brake is a great feature and it fits in our Holden Astra 4 door hatch, meaning it folds up to a very decent size. Make sure you check the measurements before purchasing as it makes it easier to go on holidays.

We chose the Burley over the Chariot and other brands of trailers because of the price and the fantastic recommendations we've seen on the Internet. It's a little narrower than the Chariot and I believe it provides more space for the child inside. I think the reclining seat and recessed helmet space is very important. The cheaper trailers don't include this, and just on the weekend whilst riding she fell asleep so we reclined the seats and she was very comfortable.

We just bought the stroller kit so looking forward to using that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it Love it Love it, September 9, 2009
By
I bought a used Burley D'Lite Double from another Amazon user about six months ago and have been completely thrilled with it. It is easy to unfold, fold, attach to your bike, and ride with. The tires are the perfect size -- it handles street curbs and bumpy, rocky terrain at fairly high speeds with ease. My 2 1/2 year-old son wasn't so sure about it at first, but I started out going really really slow and stopped when he seemed nervous. After about 5 trips around the neighborhood, he loves it. I take him to pre-school in it (the teachers smile at us when we arrive wearing our bicycle helmets), the playground, the grocery store....you name it. The bracket that mounts to your bike frame is a little tricky at first but just read the directions and then you'll be a pro. Most importantly, it is very durable and high quality. My son knocked my bike over today with the Burley still attached to it. I was braced for a loud "crack" and to have to call my hubby to come get us. But the bracket was fine and we sped on home. I recommend this product without hesitation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Read the instructions and keep it out of the rain and you'll love it!, August 14, 2009
One person mentioned problems with the seating. If all straps are used properly I assure you the seating works great. The only problem we ran into in the beginning with our 1-year-old was that the helmet pouch was too high and her head was pushed forward. This was solved by putting a small pillow behind her for support and to hold her head away from the back of the seat. After she grew a bit, the helmet pouch worked great.

Read the instructions for information about using the seating system, and keep it out of the rain (do NOT fold it up wet; dry it very well if it gets wet) and you will love your Burley D'LITE.

4.0 out of 5 stars Feature packed and well designed, October 23, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have compared this to the Chariot Cabriolet, the Burley Encore, and the Chariot Cougar 1 (as there was no double in the store).

I felt that the Cougar provided a bit more headroom and somewhat comfier interior for the child; however it came with a higher price tag even without add-ons, lower quality (IMO) elastic edged covers, and way less storage. My kids would like it, it would resell well, but the lack of storage means it is not the best fit for us.

The Cabriolet is very nice as far as how much room the children have, but it lacks a handlebar (just nice to push it around when not on a bike), has the same excessive elastic use as the Cougar, and only a moderate amount of storage. Nice little trailer, a better deal than the Cougar, not perfect. (none are)

Encore is very similar to D'Lite except for being a bit narrower, which is not as much of a concern if you have kids with a gap in age, but I have twins who are going to take up more room side by side than an older and younger sib. At 3 1/2 my more or less average girls looked squished. I would like both girls to fit until age 5, so the Encore doesn't seem like a good choice for us. If you have a gap, I would consider saving the $$$ and buying the Encore.

So here are the things I find D'LITEFUL about the D'lite. HUGE trunk which is key for us as I want to use this for day-out family outings (4 kids, 2 adults). The cover is tailored to fit and fits like a glove, no elastic to wear out, no pesky children pulling cover aside. (they can pop their feet out the bottom if they are being ornery, though) Multiple metal bars to the roll cage, seems much sturdier than the Chariot IMO. (heavier than Cabriolet, but about the same as Cougar 2) Rain shield ZIPS down snugly, isn't held sloppily in place with elastic and velcro. Non-see-through portion of cover overhead provides more of a roof than Chariot - while it blocks seeing up and out, it also means more sun protection. Reflectors all around, safety flag included (NOT true of Cabrio). Handle bar included which can be rotated into any position and locks into place VERY solid (handle bar just makes moving trailer easier, and being able to flip it overhead adds even more to the roll cage. Older reviews complained of pins and rattling with the handlebar, NOT the case now, it is smooth and solid). Little pocket in trunk area to put small things like wallet, keys, phone - some complaints of small things sliding to the front, not sure if pocket is new add on or people didn't see it. Straps do not need to be removed to place on child in the middle - simply use one from each side. Helmet relief mesh if your children wear helmets in the trailer. Trailer is very stiff initially but set up and fold down quickly becomes easier. Bowed out window space creates arm rests for kids. Tons of ventilation if you leave the back window down. Overall it just looks very nice. It makes me think of a Smart Car and I have an obsession with Smart Cars.

Now, what I don't like. The child area is not as comfy as a Chariot. There is less leg room - enough, but less. But the pay-off is the HUGE trunk. The seat is not as padded and comfy as a Chariot. It's not BAD by any means, it's just not as comfy. The harnesses are a little more fiddly to adjust than the U-shaped harnesses in the Chariot - but again this means you don't need to remove anything to put a child in the middle. There is a weird bump sewn in the part the harnesses slide up and down, I am not sure what the purpose is, if it is to keep you from going above that point or not. You CAN, but it takes effort. I also don't like that the mesh pouches for kid treasures are up in the lap area rather than the foot area, so loading them up might crowd the child - something can be hung from the bars closer to the feet, though, to solve this. It would be nice if it had a smidge more headroom - but, while not recommended, it could be used with the cover removed giving you unlimited headroom (not true of the Chariot)

The suspension doesn't seem very amazing but I don't see suspension being a huge deal with the kind of riding we plan. Large air filled wheels plus a fabric seat absorb a lot of the bumps. I plan to do rail trails and fairly smooth fun leisurly stuff so killer suspension is not a must-have for us.

Overall, the increase in parent features more than makes up for the slight decrease in child comfort. The children will be comfortable enough, it's just not as cushy as a Chariot. A little squishier padding to the seat would make it a 5. If you want a trailer that will hold your children in reasonable comfort as well as all your gear, THIS IS IT. (I have no desire to use it in stroller or ski mode... I have a good stroller, and I don't ski)

This review is from: Burley D'Lite Bike Trailer (Sports)
I searched every where for a bike trailer...I read review after review so much it was making my head spin! Locally this trailer was too expensive (so I bought this trailer when Amazon had it on sale!) Over all I have no complaints at all and the kiddos love it too! I love the green color and I really love the Burley reputation for quality & safety! Yes the Chariot brand had this or that and a couple more features (like side windows vent) HOWEVER the price was ridiculous when I could have a very safe & comfy ride for our little ones for the lower price of the Burely. Plus I actually like the look of the Burley better as well! There is a screen in the front of course & the back window does zipper down for ventilation. The harnesses seem comfy no complaints from our 2 1/2 yr old & our 1 yr old laughs every time she's in it, so I assume she is loving it as well. Little interior pockets to keep water bottles handy for thirsty little riders as well. The storage in the back is just right for diaper bag, a picnic lunch & some toys if we stop to play along our adventures. It was quick to put together and my husband is not one for putting things together LOL! Now I just have to purchase the stroller attachment.
We are very happy with this Burley D'lite bike trailer Amazon purchase!

5.0 out of 5 stars Straight from the West Burley is the Best, January 12, 2012
We purchased our Burley D'lite about a year ago and we absolutely love it. We use it as a bike trailer and now as a stroller for long walks, amusement parks, zoo trips, etc.. It's super light in weight, easy to use, and comfortable for our daughter. She loves riding in it! The cargo space is ample and comes in handy all the time. There are also a few mesh pockets in the trailer, both in the back and front. The seating inside "reclines" by way of loosing the straps. I do this when my daughter falls asleep; it helps with her neck. I do not have one negative thing to say about this stroller.. well other than the price but then again it's worth ever penny! It is expensive but it has great resale value.

I have nothing to compare this product to. I simply did some research and bought what I felt was the best trailer. I'm completely happy with it and highly recommend it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Burley d'lite double, October 17, 2008
This is my first bike trailer. I absolutely needed a double. If you put two children in this trailer they slope to the middle like a bad mattress and their back has no support so they are hunched over. There is NO recline as advertised. It bounces the cheeks off these poor children, whatever "suspension" is in this trailer is of no use. Don't spend $550 on this trailer, I think you could get the equivalent for $250. Look at other brands and actually see them in person first. They are an investment, not just for the $$ but the comfort of your children. Now we have to find another trailer because this doesn't work with two kids if it works at all. We will probably totally modify the seat or actually take it into a seamstress and have one of our own design made that has some support and a separator of some kind between the two. A trailer made for two should have two removable bucket style seats, where you can take one out to use solo. The exterior design is the only thing that keeps me from sending the whole thing off a cliff. It has good shading and ventilation. It seems well equipped to handle weather and it hooks up easily. I still wouldn't buy this one again for the money and the double feature.
