5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent engineering and solid quality
This trailer is to biking with kids what the BOB strollers are to walking: Tough! I take my 2 girls with my Bianchi cross bike through the neighborhood to the pool. Of course I slow down for curbs but the trailer takes it all in stride and remains securely attached. 1.0 out of 5 stars This is last year's model!
The Burley gets five stars from me, but this transaction with Amazon gets one star. This Burley is a 2007 model, and Amazon doesn't tell you that. I probably would have ordered it even if Amazon had stated that this was a closeout of the 2007 model year, but they don't. Amazon even e-mailed me after I complained, and they admited that their description was incorrect,...

This trailer is to biking with kids what the BOB strollers are to walking: Tough! I take my 2 girls with my Bianchi cross bike through the neighborhood to the pool. Of course I slow down for curbs but the trailer takes it all in stride and remains securely attached. I do not know what the other reviewer is referring to since the poly block fits tightly into the rear frame arm very securely. The only thing I can think of is that reviewer is too weak to secure a three star tightening wheel (which my 4 year old can do for ours).

The seats are mesh and air flows through the trailer very well. We live in Alabama so you know it gets hot here and my girls are just fine as long as we're moving. The extra storage behind the seats is great for carrying stuff. We put towels, changes of clothes and a small cooler in there all the time. The only limit is how low your gears are and the strength of your legs. I too have the flip up wheel to use as a stroller, but the trailer is not made for that since it won't fit through a standard 36" door like the BOB Evolution ( which we also have).

We bike a great deal and this trailer keeps the true on the wheels better than any (great rims) and the frame has not warped from use. I've had the d'Lite for 2 years now and my only complaint is that the seat strap in the middle does not provide enough support for a 46lb pre-schooler and a 30 lb 2 year old (it sags a little in the center). But then again, I am pushing max capacity for the thing and it was great until my 4 year old hit a growth spurt and is now the size of a 7 year old.

I'd buy another one again if this one ever broke. I use it for light mtn. biking to carry gear when I'm not with kids, so I may break it. But haven't yet and I'm hard on equipment.

Steve

5.0 out of 5 stars The d'Lite is Delightful, July 24, 2007
This review is from: Burley Design d'Lite Child Bicycle Trailer (Sports)
We love our Burley d'Lite trailer and stroller kit. It is light, roomy, and easy to use. It doesn't shake and rattle like some of the cheaper trailers that a few of my friends have bought. When we went online to check the prices on used Burley trailers, they were selling for between 30% to 50% less than a new trailer, and they had none of the comfort upgrades like soft padding for the seat and harness, seam sealed waterproof zippers, and easy front to back folding. We found the hitch is easy to use and fits both mine and my husband's bike. When we had questions, we called the Burley customer service line and they were extremely helpful.

With our Burley d'Lite, we are able to take our two children with us while we are exercising. Once installed, the stroller wheel folds up when not in use. When we stop to do errands or go to the zoo, I don't have to take my children out of the trailer or carry a different stroller with us. My son is usually asleep within 5 minutes after we start, and my daughter gets up in the morning and immediately starts asking to go for a ride in "her Burley." One of the nicest things is that I can fit 2 full bags of groceries in the rear storage compartment. Once we had kids, we got stuff - lots and lots of stuff - now we have somewhere to put it.

Thanks Burley for making such a great product!

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I probably would have ordered it even if Amazon had stated that this was a closeout of the 2007 model year, but they don't. Amazon even e-mailed me after I complained, and they admited that their description was incorrect, but they haven't changed it. Know what you are getting - a terrific "5 star" 2007 trailer. However in May 2008, Amazon should tell you that this is last year's model.

5.0 out of 5 stars Glad I went with this over the single trialer for one kid, June 12, 2009
This review is from: Burley Design d'Lite Child Bicycle Trailer (Sports)
I have just one little girl, and I almost went with a single trailer, but I thought the extra room might be nice. This trailer rides better then my specialized bike, I only notice it on hills, take offs, and step sandy descents (DO NOT DO!) My daughter rides in the middle and has plenty of room for stuffed animals, blankets, snacks, water, etc. The storage on the sides is nice for her to use while we ride, and the stroage behind her is big enoguh for two pairs of size 14 shoes, a diaper bag (40 diapers, 60 wipes, and the esstenials), a picnic, and I still have room left over.
Break down is a snap. It folds flat with a few steps, nothing really hard, but there is a piece that requires a bit of muscle and I'm a 200lb guy. I guess this is good for a roll over, but it is tuff on the fingers for folding the trailer up.
I would rate this a solid A+ And give this my highest recomendatiosn for all. I can't get my 2-1/2" year old out of this thing!

5.0 out of 5 stars Durable Trailer, June 23, 2008
This review is from: Burley Design d'Lite Child Bicycle Trailer (Sports)
As a very active family, we wore out two of the cheap InStep trailers over three years. We finally decided to "bite the bullet" and get a high-quality trailer to last many years. We use it almost daily for cycling, grocery shopping (up to 100lbs), and walking.

It has room for our two youngest children and still has plenty of room behind the seats. In fact last Sunday we biked to church as a family and put a crock pot behind the seats!

All the parts are high-quality and are designed to last. The trailer is very light, due to the aluminum frame. It is made in the USA. Two screws for the reflectors were missing. We called Burley, and they mailed them right away.

The seating area is very well padded and is very comfortable. This trailer is like going from a Chevette (remember those?) to a Cadillac. This difference is noticeable.

The only thing to be aware of is this is a 2007 model, not the 2008 model. (The main difference is the '08 model has some type of suspension to smooth out more bumps.) Amazon's product description was not clear on this, but the price is still excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pay a little extra and get a lot more, January 7, 2008
This review is from: Burley Design d'Lite Child Bicycle Trailer (Sports)
I am a real penny pincher, but this trailer is a real value. Everything that is extra with other top quality trailers is included. It is easy to use even for someone who hasn't been biking in a while. It arrived when it was planned to and in great condition. I will be using it everyday to haul my kids to daycare and me to work. My 4 year old is always ready to sit beside her 7 month old brother to get to school and just for going around the neighborhood.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product, September 30, 2007

Having read the 1 star Amazon reviews about this trailer, I nearly didn't go ahead and purchase, but am so glad I did. It arrived in just a few days and without any defects. I was concerned about how well the trailer would fit to my bike, but found that the rear wheel spindle of my bike bolts right through the bracket supplied with the trailer. As a qualified engineer, I cannot see how the trailer could become detatched from the bike without removing the spindle from the rear wheel of my bike. I would highly recommend this trailer, my daughter loves it, and so does my wife and I.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great Product..But don't have it shipped, August 21, 2007
This review is from: Burley Design d'Lite Child Bicycle Trailer (Sports)
I used my parents d'Lite and loved it. So did our daughter. I ordered one and it was delivered with a puncture in the side panel. Amazon picked it up and delivered a new one within 2 business days (no complaints there). But the second one came with the same problem - another puncture in the side panel. I found a bicylcle store that carries the trailer instead (cost was a bit higher). Bottom line - if you're paying this much for a bike trailer, be sure to get a good one at the store.
