Burmese: An Introduction to the Script,
By
This review is from: Burmese: An Introduction to the Script, Book 3 (Book + 7 Cassettes) (Paperback)
This is pretty much the book for learning the Burmese script. Virtually nothing about the Burmese script has been overlooked and it will probably be a long time before a more authoritative book is available. This book is highly recommended for anyone interested in the Burmese script. The Burmese typeface used throughout the whole series is clean, clear and easy to read.

Best book to learn the Burmese script,
By Ananda (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Burmese: An Introduction to the Script, Book 3 (Book + 7 Cassettes) (Paperback)
This is probably the best introductory book out there to learn the Burmese language. The audio recordings are extremely helpful to get the tones correct. John Okell does a thorough job of explaining the usage and pronunciations of all the consonants, vowels, and the different rule exceptions. It is good for self-study, but will be better if one can find a native Burmese speaker to help if there are questions.
A word of note: There is a new edition out with the same book, but with a CD instead of audio cassettes. Look for that version on the internet unless you prefer audio tapes. |
