A good, solid rock album,
By Wheelchair Assassin (The Great Concavity) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Burn It Black (Dig) (Audio CD)
This is what bands like Nickelback, Puddle of Mudd, and Default should be: no complaining, no ineffectual balladry, and no Pearl Jam OR Nirvana impersonations. If anything, Injected's southern-tinged, alt-metal approach calls to mind the work of Southern metal kingpins Corrosion of Conformity, although Injected's sound is more radio-friendly. The band does an excellent job of balancing heavy riffing with hooks aplenty. The musicianship is solid if unspectacular, and the vocals expertly mix aggression and melody. All songs are good, but here some highlights:When She Comes: the opener, and a good choice. It combines thick, sludgy riffing with a killer hook and great vocals. Bullet: The second single, one of the angriest songs on the disc. It starts sort of slow, but builds in intensity until it just blows up in the chorus. The vocals have a nice edge to match the dark lyrical content, which seems to be about a shooting (I guess that would make sense, given the name of the song). Faithless: The first single. A great stuttering riff, impassioned vocals, and a sweeping chorus make it perhaps the album's catchiest song. Blood Stained Glass: Pretty slow and not heavy, but the laid-back vibe works well within the context of the album, and the playing is excellent. Lights are Low: An unabashedly heavy head-banger with some great metallic riffing. Kind of like the hardest work of Fuel, but more infectious. The guitar lick in the chorus is especially noteworthy. Ride the Snake: The closer, and perhaps the heaviest song on the album, with very aggressive vocals. I don't know about anyone else, but I could've used a couple more songs like this on the album. Oh well. So, there you have it. In a modern rock genre where mediocrity seems to be the rule, Injected stand out from the pack with this well-crafted, sharply-played debut. I couldn't quite justify giving "Burn It Black" five stars, as it isn't all that original and while the musicianship is very good, it isn't great. Still, if you're turned off by the radio climate these days, Injected are a nice change of pace, and I urge picking this album up.

Rock music is something that has been morphed and reconstructed so many times it is hard to remember what the original sounds like. This is what it sounded like. There are no dominating Hybrids of rap and rock or country and rock or polka and rock (ok that's a stretch but you get the point) This album is a resurgence of the ciggarette smokin' guitar soloin' hide your daughters and mothers rock n'roll that has all but vanished. Ah it's like the (...) son of G N'R. I don't want to pick this album apart song by song because I find it disrespectful to dissect art like that. This album is this good. I will tell you that if you are going to use this site to sample this album the best rockers are "burn it black" "Sherman" (go figure) "Used up" and "lights are low." The best ballads are "Misfortune" (amazing song) and (faithless). Really the only song I recommend you don't base your decesion on is "bullet" because it is the weakest song on the album lyrically.

One of the best CDs in my collection,

This album is amazing. No matter how many times I listen to it its impact never dulls. I am so glad I happened upon this band. I look forward to their sophomore effort, apparently they're at work on it. While all the songs are AWESOME, stand outs for me are "Faithless", "I IV V", and "Bullet."
