A good, solid rock album,
By Wheelchair Assassin (The Great Concavity) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Burn It Black (Dig) (Audio CD)
This is what bands like Nickelback, Puddle of Mudd, and Default should be: no complaining, no ineffectual balladry, and no Pearl Jam OR Nirvana impersonations. If anything, Injected's southern-tinged, alt-metal approach calls to mind the work of Southern metal kingpins Corrosion of Conformity, although Injected's sound is more radio-friendly. The band does an excellent job of balancing heavy riffing with hooks aplenty. The musicianship is solid if unspectacular, and the vocals expertly mix aggression and melody. All songs are good, but here some highlights:When She Comes: the opener, and a good choice. It combines thick, sludgy riffing with a killer hook and great vocals. Bullet: The second single, one of the angriest songs on the disc. It starts sort of slow, but builds in intensity until it just blows up in the chorus. The vocals have a nice edge to match the dark lyrical content, which seems to be about a shooting (I guess that would make sense, given the name of the song). Faithless: The first single. A great stuttering riff, impassioned vocals, and a sweeping chorus make it perhaps the album's catchiest song. Blood Stained Glass: Pretty slow and not heavy, but the laid-back vibe works well within the context of the album, and the playing is excellent. Lights are Low: An unabashedly heavy head-banger with some great metallic riffing. Kind of like the hardest work of Fuel, but more infectious. The guitar lick in the chorus is especially noteworthy. Ride the Snake: The closer, and perhaps the heaviest song on the album, with very aggressive vocals. I don't know about anyone else, but I could've used a couple more songs like this on the album. Oh well. So, there you have it. In a modern rock genre where mediocrity seems to be the rule, Injected stand out from the pack with this well-crafted, sharply-played debut. I couldn't quite justify giving "Burn It Black" five stars, as it isn't all that original and while the musicianship is very good, it isn't great. Still, if you're turned off by the radio climate these days, Injected are a nice change of pace, and I urge picking this album up.

Rock music is something that has been morphed and reconstructed so many times it is hard to remember what the original sounds like. This is what it sounded like. There are no dominating Hybrids of rap and rock or country and rock or polka and rock (ok that's a stretch but you get the point) This album is a resurgence of the ciggarette smokin' guitar soloin' hide your daughters and mothers rock n'roll that has all but vanished. Ah it's like the (...) son of G N'R. I don't want to pick this album apart song by song because I find it disrespectful to dissect art like that. This album is this good. I will tell you that if you are going to use this site to sample this album the best rockers are "burn it black" "Sherman" (go figure) "Used up" and "lights are low." The best ballads are "Misfortune" (amazing song) and (faithless). Really the only song I recommend you don't base your decesion on is "bullet" because it is the weakest song on the album lyrically.

This album is amazing. No matter how many times I listen to it its impact never dulls. I am so glad I happened upon this band. I look forward to their sophomore effort, apparently they're at work on it. While all the songs are AWESOME, stand outs for me are "Faithless", "I IV V", and "Bullet."

True rock without the Creed rip-offs!,

From the first few chords of When She Comes you know that you didn't buy another band trying to sound like Pearl Jam or Creed. These guys do their own thing and rock like a bunch of mofos while they're at it. I recently caught them on the MTV Campus Invasion tour and they really perform like a real band, talking to the crowd, interacting with each other ...on stage! Burn it Black is probably the most refreshing CD I have heard this year. Some tracks are pure heavy slugfests that feel a lot more pure than heavy wannabes like Staind (the title track, Bullet, Sherman), but then they can pull out the mellow hat and take you on some interesting slow tempo songs (Only Hurts A While and the album's best song Ms. Fortune). The latter song possesses a vibe that draws you in with the dreamy verses than rocks you out by the chorus. There's a kind of versatiltity in these songs that other bands can't hold a candle to. This praise isn't coming from some nu-metal or fake alternative fan either, my favorite bands are Pearl Jam and Alice In Chains. To hear an original alternative fan like myself rave about a new band is rare. These guys are AWESOME!!! Other standouts that missed the above mentioning are the interesting almost Incubus-like sound of I,IV,V and the almost funky Bloodstained. On another note, the guys in the band are frickin' cool too, they actually meet their fans. I got the chance to land a few autographs and they're really cool guys. They were funny, polite, down to earth and they dug my STP shirt. Okay, that's enough hyping for this review. I can't recommend to you enough this album. I don't [care]who you are or what you like, BUY IT!

"Hotlanta" rock and roll,

Atlanta band Injected's debut CD is a potent mix of passionate vocals and thoughtful lyricism. Lead single "Faithless" has a muscular, staccato opening riff that gives the song an infectious punch. The vocals on this album most closely resemble former Soundgarden vocalist Chris Cornell, minus the upper octaves. The overall sound of the album seems to be a grungy metal, which contains much more melody than a lot of the nu-metal that pervades today's airwaves. "Bullet" is one of the more metal songs on the CD, while "Sherman" has an arena-ready riff that makes me imagine thousands of people jumping along. Injected are on the MTV campus invasion tour 2k2 with Nickelback and Default, and in my opinion have the talent to blow both of those bands out of the water.

I got this album the day it came out, I really liked it and have been listening to it all week. Anybody who has heard this band likes them, I hope to see them on tour with Fu Manchu this month. If you are skeptic on buying this cd, don't be, because every track on this cd is great. Injected, in my opinion, will be a big band soon, so get this while it's still cheap. You won't be disappointed, it even has a cd extra with the video for Faithless.

Basically this cd rawks. It starts out with the mid-tempo very melodic when she comes.Although all the overdubed singing gets on my nerves. It moves on to a sort of basic rock song with a little more crunch. Then you are hit hard with bullet. This is the second heaviest song on the album. It rocks. It sort of has a rap feel to the verse, but it is more sung than rapped. Then the first single faithless plays. It is a very catchy song. It uses helmet like dynamics with smashing pumpkins type melody. only hurts a while is so over produced that it only hurts to listen to it. this is the reason for the four star rating. Although the album is very good, the production is too much sometimes. I do not know which danny is singing cause there is like three voices going on at the same time. Not all songs are like this, but many of the choruses are. 145 rocks and could very easily be a smash hit. It probably will be, but this review is being written two days after the cd release party. My personal favorites are Ms. fortune and The hidden song(ride the snake) Ms.fortune is beautiful and delicate and slower. It sounds like a star 94 song(for you un-atliens) star 94 plays adult contemporary rock, third eye blind to celine dion. But I can not help but sing along to it. Ride the snake just flat out rocks. think helmet. It sounds like something off of born annoying or strap it on. very raw and very heavy. Bloodstained is a very old song. probably written around 1996. It is my least favorite song on the album. It just bores the hell out of me. the two buckcherry like songs are lights are low and sherman. both have that old rock n roll sound to them, yet are obviouly influenced by, once again, helmet. The closing song Dawn is good, but after repeat listens I just want to skip it. One thing to remember is Injected is way better live. Go see them live to really get the experience. This album is just a little slick and I think that it hurts them a little. They seemed to have toned it down for their major label debut. It is not as heavy as injected comes across live. It was produced by Butch Walker, who in my opinion, is...talentless...it real and raw. I would love to hear more songs like bullet and ride the snake. Over all i would recommend this cd to anyone who is a fan of helmet, pumpkins, and a little buckcherry.

A Breath of Fresh Smoke,
By Raven (Midlo) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Burn It Black (Dig) (Audio CD)
Hey, I bought this CD on nothing more than a 30 sec. sample i downloaded... and it was worth it. Injected has obvious influences from bands like the Stone Temple Pilots, but they still succeed in pulling off something very original in that it's Nu-Metal by definition but just as infectious as "classic" grunge CDs like Nirvana's "Nevermind", Korn's Self-Titled debut, and punk's revival album; Green Day's "Dookie". Here is a little summary of the songs on "Burn it Black".1. When She Comes - Think Creed guitar lines and Stone Temple Pilots harmonies. This song is a pleasant opener that sets the mood very well. 2. Burn It Black - One of the heavier songs on the CD, and I personally notice some Soundgarden influences within. Another good song, but it's a little annoying after a while. 3. Bullet - A SWEET song! Heavy, but soft enough to carry it perfectly through the melodic chorus. One of my favorites on the CD. 4. Faithless - This song showcases the excellent harmony and guitar abilities of Injected. This song is slower than some others but the chorus once again rescues the dreary verse. You will get this song stuck in your head. 5. Only Hurts Awhile - One of the slowest songs on the CD... sort of reminiscent of Tool/Perfect Circle songwriting and Incubus vocals. It's a really good song which breaks into a sweet heavy part near the end. 6. I-IV-V - I guess you could call this "Death Jazz". It sounds like Jazz at the beginning, but blasts into a metal chorus. It's strange but not at all bad... Another one of my favorites, kinda. 7. Sherman - Ok everyone. Think about the Ramones chucked into a blender with Godsmack... you have Sherman. It's an incredible song for old punk lovers, but I don't think this is a song everyone will like as much as others. 8. Used Up - This is the one song that reminds me of nothing but early Stone Temple Pilots. It's probably my favorite song on the whole CD and I think it really defines Injected's songwriting ability. 9. Ms Fortune - Injected's originality shines through on this track. They combined a really soft, bassy verse, and blended it with a gothic and melodic chorus. A really sweet song for those of you keeping track. 10. Bloodstained - Another slight Creed/Incubus influenced song, but also another real original song in that the vocals and the guitar can be blended so incredibly well that it blows Incubus and Creed away in the field of heavy songs. 11. Lights are Low - NICE... infectious as hell, and has a GREAT chorus. An 80's rock and 90's grunge combination and they make it sound great. 12. Dawn - One of the best closers I have ever heard on a CD. Beautifully melodic, depressingly gothic, yet upbeat and heavy at the same time. I love this song because it really reflects the emotion portrayed in the lyrics. Well, that's all I'm gonna say. Go buy it, listen to it, and I promise you'll like it if you like Orgy, Stone Temple Pilots, Creed, Early Incubus, ANY of those then this CD is for you.

This band should be famous,

Seriously, every song on Injected's first album is nothing short of extraordinary, noticeably "Paint it Black" "Bullet" "Only Hurts Awhile" and of course "Faithless." The musical styles are fresh and very memorable, and the lyrics are all perfectly psychological if you ask me. Get this CD while you still can!

The suprise album from this year,
By Wiseguy 945 (Cedar Rapids, IA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Burn It Black (Dig) (Audio CD)
As many of the reviewers point out, just a few years ago we were hit with a mess of new bands like puddle of mudd, trapped, smile empty soul, nickelback, that had a similar formula and style to them. This album was an outsider dark horse from that time period. Often overlooked, this album has that hevier edge that many people may have missed, but enough of a finished edge that make it really easy to bring into a collection without alienating friends and neighbors, like much of the new Metal does with it "cookie moster" vocal styles. It's no suprise that Butch Walker had a hand in producing this band, who had some success with Marvelous 3 (before that Southgang) and it's hard edge but commercial friendly music, and darn catchy as well. Overall, many good songs on this album, best known single was "Faithless". Nice flow and power to this, a good pick up for any collection. Also, The last two albums from bowling for soup are produced by him (drunk enough to dance, and A hangover you didn't deserve) are a good show at how he helps pick a talented band and take it to the next level (and Grammy nomination for the song "girl all the bad guys want")
