Book Description

Bloody Twilight, a kingdom already on the brink of collapse finds itself under siege by its own dead soldiers brought back to raging life. The mastermind: the magician Grolev, who holds captive the last surviving member of the royal family – The Orphan.

Her only hope for rescue lay with Bloody Twilight’s castoffs: pixie leader Quinn Kind; Captain Victor Mene, lone army survivor; Welles, a magician with a vested interest in the kingdom’s dark past; and Nathan Cord, former military golden boy, The Orphan’s favorite uncle…and the king’s killer.

As the choice to save Bloody Twilight or put it out of its misery becomes more complicated, these misfits soon learn their toughest threat isn’t the hordes of murder-minded dead – it’s themselves.

Unsure whether to save Bloody Twilight or kill it faster, they must confront the mistakes they made that helped cripple their homeland. As the battle against undead soldiers and the vicious Grolev escalates, can they shed their anger and accept responsibility for the past in time to win the day?

Burn Down Bloody Twilight, the first novel from author Jeff Holland, is the story of the kingdom of Western Sun. A kingdom built on the bodies of its enemies. Literally. And when an evil magician raises all of the dead in Western Sun, a disgraced former soldier is coerced back into battle. And considering that the (very appropriate) common name for Western Sun is Bloody Twilight, that is a serious problem. In addition to the hordes of walking corpses, The Orphan - rightful heiress to the kingdom - is held captive in the tower. It's now up to the unlikely trio of The Orphan's former teachers and a commander in the royal army to save the day. And the only way to do that, is to Burn Down Bloody Twilight.

Holland's novel is filled with action, both physical and magical. It also has a lot of heart and a great sense of humor. The characters are all very well fleshed out, especially his lead female character. The disgraced soldier is the ultimate anti-hero. The story is one of redemption and of heroes who find the steel inside that makes them natural leaders. It's a story that I thoroughly enjoyed & I truly hope continues. There must certainly be more to tell about these characters and there is definitely more to tell about the kingdom of Western Sun. I, for one, sincerely hope that Holland continues the tale.
