An Amazing Album... The Finest Fruit Yet!, September 29, 2005
This review is from: Burn (Audio CD)
I have listened to this album almost every day since I first got a copy about six months ago. Every track has that special quality that makes you press the "back" button to hear it again! Particular Highlights are track 12 "weather girl" by Sam Lohs and the anthemic "Burn" by Mel Watson, Susie Keyne's finest moment on this album is undoubtable "Cherish".
The different songwriting styles and personalities of the three lead singers Susie, Sam and Mel give Fruit a richness beyond any group I've heard. Seeing them live is the experience of a lifetime. But this album has a different quality to their live shows, it is the most finely tuned of their albums to date, and the emotive orchestration of the strings takes this album to a higher level than their previous studio work. I would love to see Fruit perform live with some strings, or perhaps a lone cello.
If there is one criticism I have of 'Burn' it would be that I don't think the cover art reflects the energy and joy that oozes from this band. The 'serious musician faces' on all the girls on the front cover is a bit melancholy for my tastes and not, in my opinion, a reflection of the energy and positivity of most of the tracks.
This album is a strong release worthy of much more commercial airplay than it has received so far in Australia. Do yourself a favour and buy a copy now, it will become a favourite.

Amazing, world-positive music, September 28, 2005
Fruit is a trio of amazingly talented singer-songwriters from Adelaide, Australia. Two of the women wield guitars, and the third plays just about every kind of wind instrument you can imagine. Like most great bands, they defy musical categorization. You'll just have to listen to the sound clips to get an idea.
"Burn" is in some ways a greatest hits CD. Some of the songs are new, but many have appeared on earlier albums. This album was recorded and produced in a state of the art studio not available to many independent bands, and the resulting tracks are the fulfillment of the band's vision for the songs.
Go to a Fruit concert if you can. Their songs and their lives brim with an infectious positive energy. If you're looking for great musicians with with great mesages and great feeling, you've found them.

Its a really good CD. There are some tracks that really pull you in. There are some that you can Identify with. I just wish that I had this CD when I was going through some things, now when I listen to certain songs they just evoke the memories... even so, it is a really good CD for someone who likes a little bit of everything.
