Freakin' Awesome!,
By Marooned (Raleigh, NC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Burn Burn Burn (Audio CD)
I have followed OLP since Naveed and each album has ALWAYS exceeded my expectation. Normally bands only have one or two good albums and what I love about OLP is that each album is amazing and this one is no differnet. All I have to say is that this album is Freakin' Awesome! I've been anticipating this for over a year and I can't say how pleased I am. I've been hooked on their website watching the countdown. All I can say is that I challenge you to find a song you won't love. My personal favorites are Dreamland, Papermoon & Signs of Life. I'd list all of the songs but that would be too easy. Thank you for staying together as a band and producing yet another monumental album!

Is "Mature" in music terms code for "Boring"?,

I used to be quite a fan of Our Lady Peace. I enjoyed Naveed quite a lot. I absolutely loved Clumsy, Happiness..., and Spiritual Machines. I was notably less than thrilled with either of their Bob Rock produced albums, especially Healthy in Paranoid Times. When I found out that they had parted ways with him and were producing their own album, I was quite excited and hopeful that it might resemble some of the great work they did during the latter half of the 90's.
It doesn't. Maida's haunting falsetto fails to make an appearance. The songs are so similar as to be hard to distinguish one from another without looking at what track is currently playing. Worst of all the album lacks "feeling". You rather quickly get the feeling that this album was made without any measure of emotional investment from the band members. (for a comparison listen to the clearly conveyed emotion in Maida's voice on the track "4 AM" on the album "Clumsy") It seems like music has lost it's magic for OLP, and conversely their music has lost its magic for me.

Dull..,
By The Remedy (Greensboro, NC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Burn Burn Burn (Audio CD)
This album is by far their most dry work they've done. They've lost all their fire in this album, which is ironic that its called "burn burn"
I'll stick to their other albums because I still can't make it through the whole album in one sitting without getting annoyed.

Absolutely Amazing Album,
This review is from: Burn Burn Burn (Audio CD)
This might be one of the most cohesive, mature, guitar packed albums I've ever heard. Listen after listen, I still get the chills and it never gets old. Guitar blends perfectly with the vocals, one song seems to run right into the next. The lyrics are absolutely powerful and heartfelt, just like every other OLP album. To be honest, if you take 'Gravity' and 'Happiness' and mix them together, this is what you get.
Sure they're not the same OLP, but pretty damn close.Their signature sound is still there, just more mature...almost reborn. All I know is that I love the album and don't know how one wouldn't. You'd have to be deaf. Probably one of my all-time favorites already and thats coming from a diehard fan of bands like Smashing Pumpkins, The Cure, 311 and Wilco...which is saying alot. OLP is has now fallen into my top 5 favorite bands. Key Tracks: Dreamland, The End Is Where We Begin, Escape Artist, Paper Moon, Never Get Over You The only complaint I have about this album is that Time Bomb wasn't on it. Deluxe Edition is worth the extra price because of it! Great album, get it!

I liked their album before this one a lot more but I might just have to give it a few more listens to really get into it
