5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't be better
When I first listened to this album, I thought "gee yet another same old hardcore album". All I have to say is don't be fooled. This cd will grab you by your emotions and twist you around until you are jumping up and down while running in circles. 5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't be better, March 5, 2003
This review is from: Burned Alive By Time (Audio CD)
When I first listened to this album, I thought "gee yet another same old hardcore album". All I have to say is don't be fooled. This cd will grab you by your emotions and twist you around until you are jumping up and down while running in circles. The first song immediatly hits you hard and gives you a taste of what you are about to indulge in. Then you get to the song burned alive by time. This song hits you hard, then shows you the bands more melodic, emotional side. Then it rips and tears you up until you get to the next song Dear Live Journal. This song is the stand out song, as it is the most melodic. It starts with amazing riffs and beautiful vocals only to be followed by the hardcore sound you have already heard in the previous 3 songs. The next couple of songs are a mix of ET's melodic and heavier sides. Then my personal favorite track Taking Care of the Dead Fish hits you the hardest out of the whole album. It's amazing breakdowns followed by the beautiful vocals and backup screaming vocals only make you feel like you have made a right decision by buying this album. Do not pass up this oppurtunity if you are a fan of Hopefall, From Autumn to Ashes, Eighteen Visions, or the Hope Conspiracy

5.0 out of 5 stars now more than ever, February 2, 2003

It is such an honor to have my first review be a first review itself, and for it to be one of my favorite releases of the latter half of 2002. The first thing that I want to say about ET is that they are talented and fairly unique, though they do play a sound of hardcore that is getting to be quite popular...sort of...

The first thing I thought about this record was: too many breakdowns. However, I must add that I had only listened to the first couple tracks at this point, which are basically breakdown/transition/breakdown (they are good tracks, though). I don't want to lead you to believe that the rest of the album is devoid of breakdowns, because it really never lets up, but it does branch out in several different directions. Dear Livejournal, Funeral Grade Flowers, and Heavy Number One feature as many clean vocals as hardcore vocals, for instance. Also, the metal influences are still there, as they are seen in the occasional complex riff and at times in the slightly underused double bass. You could say that ET has become both heavier and more melodic since their debut, and that is somewhat accurate. And if that isn't positive progression, what is?

If you need more convincing, check out No Donnie These Men Are Nihilist which has a link from theprp.com. Plus, Track J (they are lettered, not numbered) is a Depeche Mode cover song, which may better their Sunday, Bloody Sunday cover. The lyrics are also quite good, and the song titles are wonderfully cynical and tounge-in-cheek. So, if you like hardcore with some melody, some sing-alongs, clever lyrics, and bunches of heavy hardcore breakdowns, check out this album before the trendy metalcore kids are telling you about how much it rocks.

EVERGREEN TERRACE IS ONE BAND THAT PUTS RAW EMOTION AND POWER INTO THEIR MUSIC! when i saw in my city with Every Time I Die, they blew the house away, or at least me because it was so great and the hardcore pits where their usual brutal selves and those are always fun to go into.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best, September 16, 2004

This is the best overall band i have ever heard. Just the fact that at any given moment they have 2 layers of vocals, one screaming and one singing is awesome. Their guitar players have a differen't style, first with their low tunning and second with their not so technical but still magnetic playing. Their drummer has some of the coolest beats i have heard, almost as good as the reverend from Avenged Sevenfold. Their overall clash of hardcore and melodic makes this the best, and this cd being their first is the best because it represents how they really wanted to sound. But their other one is right up their beside it so look into that one as well.

I picked this cd up at local show becuase a friend told me they were good. Well I am not sure what all the fuss is about this band because to me they sound pretty generic. Yes, this is a good cd but I rarely listen to it when there are much better bands out there. Unfortunately I have missed many opportunitys to see this band live due to school work or vacation or whatnot. Maybe if I ever do see them live then my opinion will go up becuase I have heard that put on a good show so we'll see. Anyway if you're really into hardcore then you'll probably enjoy this, but if you like metal more then I probably wouldn't recommend it.
