4.0 out of 5 stars Rating: 4½/5 stars June 29, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Burned by Sarah Morgan
Source: Author/Publisher
Rating: 4½/5 stars

Is there really anything more humiliating than getting dumped by your current boyfriend as your smolderingly hot ex-boyfriend listens in? Yep! How about being told, within earshot of your ex-boyfriend that you are not feminine enough, should join a book club and learn how to bake and then, being attacked in the street after you run out of the restaurant and have to be saved by your ex? Oh, and then the ex criticizes your fighting stance. Yeah, I think that qualifies as well and truly humiliating.

For five long years, Rosie’s most enduring relationship has been with her battery operated boyfriend. Men just don’t get her: she’s fierce, strong, well-trained and more than capable of defending herself in a bad situation. In other words, most men are intimidated by her. Furthermore, Rosie has come to accept that no man is ever, ever, ever going to compare to Hunter Black, her first love, her first lover and, the man who tore her apart when he walked out on her without so much as a backward glance. For five years Rosie has forbidden her beloved sister from saying his name and has tried to convince herself that she is totally and completely over Hunter Black. Yeah, right!

Hunter Black has traveled the world (literally!) perfecting his marital arts skills, working as an expert on Hollywood sets and, trying to forget his ninja, Rosie. When Hunter decides it was time to settle down he returns home to London, buys the fitness center he did all of his early training in and, witnesses his ex’s stunning public humiliation. Though he wants to reconnect with Rosie, witnessing her dumping and ass-kicking was not what he had in mind.

4.0 out of 5 stars Burned June 24, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
This book was provided by the publisher in the print form of 'Tangled Up' in exchange for an honest review.

When I first started this book, I didn't realize this was the second in a series, but it didn't hinder my enjoyment of this book. If anything, it gave me another read to look forward to! :)

If you've read some of my previous reviews, then you know I am a huge fan of lovers who have been separated for whatever reason and then reunite.

To Rosie's mortification, the love of her life (who she hasn't seen in years) is witness to her getting dumped just before her birthday. In attempt to thwart the awkwardness of finishing dinner with an new ex- and running into and old ex-, she makes a mad dash from the restaurant.

And that's when Rosie's like takes a turn...for the better or for the worse remains to be seen for our main character.

I really enjoyed Burned. With a book of this length, it can be hard to find just the right amount of intensity, but this author managed to find it.

Rosie was such a likable character. One of the things that I really liked about her was that even though she was mad at Hunter for leaving her so abruptly, she didn't blame him entirely. She recognized things she could have done better in their relationship and took ownership of that.

Hunter wasn't at all what he seemed. He appeared to be a man who had it all together without a care in the world. He'd been knocked down, but he took control of his life and made things happen. While his past definitely shaped the man he'd become, he didn't let it consume him. He didn't give up on Rosie when she fought their attraction, but he also didn't push her. He was willing to wait it out and let Rosie have time to think about things.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyed it! June 20, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Unless you’ve lived through it no one ever knows how they will react if they were to see their first love and first heartbreak return into their lives. I know we’d all like to think we could handle it, be mature, forget the past and that’s exactly what the heroine in Sarah Morgan’s Burned tries to do but instead she finds herself in a bad situation one her ex helps her get out of right before he swoops in and throws her life upside down once again.

I’m a sucker for lover’s reunited stories and this is a very good one. Rosie is one of those heroines I fell immediately in love with because she refuses to change who she is for a man. She’s tough, she loves her job, has great friends, and a sister who loves her. The one thing that has escaped her is a man who treats her well, isn’t threatened by her strength, and who loves her the way she is. Then Hunter Black walks back in her life stirring up the hurt from the past and making her heart and body react like no other man since he left her years ago. Thing is it’s easy to see that Hunter is equally affected by their intense chemistry and appreciates all aspects of Rosie which makes me love him all the more.

It doesn’t take this couple long to jump back in to a physical relationship one that Rosie insists only be physical because her heart can’t take another pounding. Together they are combustible and their intimate scenes are scorching hot.
Although this is a novella, the characters are well developed and their relationship doesn’t play out so easily that it’s unbelievable. I felt this author did a great job of balancing this story; there was just enough strife to make it interesting, some fantastic sexy times, and the relationship had a foundation from the past in which to build upon. Sarah Morgan is a new to me author but after reading Burned, I’ll be checking out her other offerings soon.
