An act to watch,
By eightpointagenda "Sean" (Chicago, IL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Burnerism (Audio CD)
I'm an avid watcher of warprecords.com; always on the lookout for their latest and greatest acts. But I've been growing increasingly more frustrated with their newer acts they've been signing. Once the leader of of IDM and experimental techno, they've been pushing far too much of "the next big thing" these days (which has been mostly indie-electronic acts). While Team Shadetek still has most of the elements of the forementioned genre, there is still a strong semblence of the Warp of yore that makes me curious what these guys will do in the future.Shadetek's sound is kind of like what an orgy between Chris Clark, Prefuse 73, Autechre, Boom Bip, and Aphex Twin might sound like (don't picture it though). Though heavily rooted in hip hop beats, there is also a coexsistence of crunchy melodies and arhythmic sounds not too far removed from the Warp Records heavy hitters. The combination of all these elements can be a bit messy and confusing at times but the results are catchy, fascinating, and moving. EPs aren't meant to be groundbreaking. Rather, EPs are a great way of getting your manifesto across and drumming up interest in something bigger that might be on the horizon. Shadetek (along with artists like Jimmy Edgar, Kill Memory Crash, Chris Clark and a few others that I can't think of) are showing that there is still room for innovation in the world of electronica. Burnerism is a pretty good promise that there will be more greatness on the horizon.

Best new Warp aritists, bar none.,

People think "like Drivel which in the dictionary means '2 talk stupidly or childishly." that this is simple beatbox button pressing but I for one as a music artist knows how incredibly complex shadeteks songs are. Not that complex makes great music but they have an uncanny ability to make songs that catches your interest
from beat one and keeps you groving hardcore to the last track. In my opinion Shadeteks' album is almost genious. It's about the only CD I have considered buying in 2 years.

worst record warp has ever released,
By easy "strametto" (Hoboken, NJ United States) - See all my reviews

Anyone giving this album a positive review must either be the artists themselves, friends or family members of the artists, Warp records, or their distributor. The artwork for the album is fresh, and that is the only reason why this record deserves one star. I don't enjoy writing negative reviews, and this is probably the first record Warp has released that has made me upset, but Team Shadetek are a completly void of any musical talent. This album can in no way compete with material from RDJ, Squarepusher, Prefuse, LFO, Boards of Canada, or even Chris Clark for that matter.
