5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Excellence, July 18, 2003
By
GD (Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Burnin Sneakers (Audio CD)
'Burnin Sneakers' is quite different from the previous on 'In Stereo', yet still has the trademark Bomfunk feel.

While almost every track has track has common similarities, the album is full to the brim with variety. The lead (#1) single 'Super Electric' and 'Put Ya Hands Up' are bass-packed electronic tracks with a faint aroma of break beat.

'Freak It On', 'Where's The Party At' (feat. Mighty 44) and 'King Step' keep an electro theme with a more heavy hip-hop influence.

'Rockin With Tha Best' is similar but drops the electric all together and brings in the funky beats, scratches and synths. 'Throw 1 Back Atcha' is a more down beat funky track with piano loops and synth melodies appropriate for ambient music.

'We R Atomic' has very much the funky house feel Bomfunk MC's have been described to have. It sounds a little 80's, but not too much. 'Steady Rockin' is very funky, with strong drum beats. Cleverly layered lyrics and breaks give it an upbeat feel, while it is very layed back. While it does not officially feature, Max'C features on vocals.

'Live Your Life' (feat. Max'C), the #1 single following 'Super Electric' hints at various styles such as dnb, electronic, funk and rnb. The only thing for sure is it's addictive drum loops.

'Something Going On' (feat. Jessica Folcker) sounds like it was fresh off a Top 40 compilation with Christina Aguliera and Kylie Minogue. The third single from the album, when analysed closely, is very electronica, but it's radio friendly beats and pop-sounding lyrics from Jessica Folker give it an overall pop-dance sound.

If it wasn't for MCing from Bomfunk's B.O.W and feature from Z-MC, 'Back To Back', the fourth single, could easily be mistaken for a regular rock artist. Its' typical rock beat and dominant electric guitars make it very much a rock n roll track.

It seems no matter what style DJ Gismo and MC B.O.W (a.k.a Bomfunk MC's) go for, they dish up something tasty. Every track here is a gem, and for their own reasons. The only faults this album may have is its' wide variety possibly not for everyone (allthough there's something for everyone), and the fact that it is slightly watered down in commercialisation in some areas may dissapoint fans of 'In Stereo'. But this does not make it any worse, it is an awesome album. 5 out of 5!

4.0 out of 5 stars A great come back for these freaks!!, November 18, 2002

I loved the first cd...which I brought from over seas...and after giving the new cd a few months to sink in...I have to say I really like it. It's a bit different from In Stereo, but a change is good most the time!!
We R Atomic has the same sound from the last cd..it's fun and great to drive to!!
Super Electronic begins to cross over but remembers the great sound to BF mc's....Back to Back is a fun blend to "sort of" rock out to!
Something Going On has to much of a stupid top 40's thing going on...that is where i drop a star!! But hey...my daughter loves to dance to it!! Then again she is 4!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as their 1st album, September 27, 2002

Although there are so good tracks on this CD, overall it was not as good as I had hoped. "Rockin with the Best" is a good track, among a few others, but the rest are not songs I would listen to again. If you don't have their first album yet, I would recommend getting that before even thinking about buying this one.
