5.0 out of 5 stars More 12's on CD!!!, March 3, 2001
This review is from: Burning the Fields (Audio CD)
Big fan of the Neph am I, along with the Cult, Sisters etc. But how hard is it to get the long versions, B sides or rare recordings that were released on vinyl? Surely studios have still got the masters, get this music out on CD rather than cutting a CD album of 40min duration! Put 12' versions on the end, or tracks that went out on B' sideds. Seems the only time the music "business" gives us rare recordings is when they're dreadful. Oh, and if you have other Neph albums, BUY THIS TOO!!!

OK, this is the first EP from Fields of the Nephilim. On this effort the band's sound is not like on their late efforts, but it's still very unique. Come on, it's actually the only gothic record I know with a saxophone (If somebody knows others, drop me a line...). The band's look is pretty silly, comparing to the Richard Stanley-influenced western style. Now on to the songs:

1. Trees come down - two-part slow-fast rocker.

2.Back in Gehenna - some kind of the band's raison d'etre at that time (?)

3. Darkcell - a damn good gothic (the most gothic) track!!!

4. Laura - another fast song, must be great in concert.

Overall, it is a good EP that lead to three great albums. If you love the band, grab it. If you don't know the band well, start with the mighty Nephilim (1988 LP), then come to the others.
