5.0 out of 5 stars Wow, December 13, 2009
This review is from: The Burning (Audio CD)
This CD is great. It takes a little while to truly appreciate the songs, but the more you listen the better it gets. It has that perfect mix of screaming and catchy clean vocals. Another aspect that I like is the fact that the music is both clean and technical which switches back and forth so that it never gets boring. The drums are excellent!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Metal meets emo, February 4, 2009
This review is from: Burning (Audio CD)
The Good

"The Greatest Story Even Told" is the perfect mix of metal, melody, and unique story telling. Essential the lyrics revolve around a sometimes gruesome love triangle. "In the Throws of a Moral Quandary" is a twisted journey into the life of drug addiction. The song can be intense at times, but also subdued. The flow matches the real-life effects of such an addiction. "You Scratched My Anger" is full of rage, anger, and heavy riffage as it delves into betrayal and infidelity.

You know that point in your troubled relationship where you both know you shouldn't be together, but neither one of you want to hurt the other's feeling? Vocalist Jeremy Schwartz knows it all too well on "Build Your Own Disaster." He even shoots for the sympathy sex on the way out the door. Of course, after the break-up, Schwartz is having regrets and jealousy issues on "What I Learned in Study Hall." This track is pure acoustic and melody, without the shouting.

The Bad

Nothing notable

The Verdict

The Burning can be summed up in just three words; metal meets emo. What a combination! In addition to the thunder of the guitars and the melodic and intense lyrics, the group manages to pen some great a relatable lyrics.
