Burning my cd ? I don't think so..., October 3, 2000
This review is from: Burning Japan Live 1999 (Audio CD)
Tracklist: The Immortal, Dark Insanity, Dead Inside, Diva Satanica, Pilgrim, Silverwing, Beast Of Man, Bass Intro/Tears Of The Dead, Bridge Of Destiny, Transmigration Macabre, Angelclaw 11 tracks: 2 from "Black earth" (only ! ), 3 from "Stigmata" and the rest - 6 tracks from "Burning bridges". Total time: 48:47 This, limited to Japan only, CD sounds good, audience is great, but there are too much songs from the latest (and the weakest IMHO) album. I think this show is short. Too short. This CD should cost [less].... There are some PC files on the disc (short interview, some live shots, pictures) PS. I've found Arch Enemy/ Cathedral bootleg called "Black birth machine" (2CD) from Osaka 97. It's better than "Burning Japan"...

The best of Johan-era A.E. \m/, July 2, 2011
Alright, so basically, this album rules, front to back. Arch Enemy sound absolutely amazing live, with Johan in particular giving the best performance of his career with the band on this release. It's ironic they would fire him following this to replace him with the at the time unknown, Angela Gossow. The drums are pounding, the bass is more clear and audible on here than any of the three studio albums this recording takes it's tracks from, those being Black Earth, Stigmata, and Burning Bridges. Of course, Arch Enemy's most important aspect is the guitar mastery of Michael and Christopher Amott and the interplay they have with each other. Both are on top form, with Chris being a technical perfectionist, rarely deviating from the solos he lays down in the studio. An exception is in the immortal, with an amazing bend in transition between licks, and a melodic line to conclude his lead, instead of the whammy bar thing. Michael is of course the fan favorite though, especially in Japan it would seem, his style being more that of an expressive hard rock player. He does deviate from his studio solos more than Christopher, which is sometimes disappointing, as in Silverwing, which to my ears, is perfect on record. Both play perfect, crushing rhythms throughout the excellent 11 song set. My only complaint is that they didn't play Bury Me An Angel, a stand-out track from their first album, and they didn't do the ending leads in bridge of destiny, one of the band's all-time shining moments. In conclusion, buy this album. It's noteworthy though that the re-issues of Stigmata and Burning Bridges together come with 9/11 of these songs...so you may just want to go with those.

Burning Japan Live, February 7, 2002
A excelent display of Arch Enemy live. Only fault's I have with the disc is it's short play length, 48:47 to be exact, and the lack of songs from the first album "Black Earth". The enhanced feature is pretty cool though. I also like the matte slipcase it came in, but beware it gets scratches very easily. All in all, it was a well spent ($) and a great addition to any Arch Enemy fans collection. Buy it already!!
