Burning Light Deluxe Edition Trailer

Biography

Under a vast, October sky, standing on stage before tens of thousands deep in the heart of Africa, Chris Tomlin felt right at home. Even all those miles removed from the familiar, Tomlin detected the steady, burning light that’s universal and uniting. He’s aware that no matter where in the world, we all seek connection, to know that we’re part of a grander narrative, a ... Read more in Amazon's Chris Tomlin Store

Editorial Reviews

One of the most storied worship leaders of our time, Chris Tomlin, returns with his latest album Burning Lights, which features the radio hit Whom Shall I Fear (God of the Angel Armies). As the songwriter behind the worship favorites How Great is Our God, Jesus Messiah, Holy is the Lord, and Forever, Chris continues to write songs that connect people to the heart of Jesus and lead them to a greater worship of Him.

With 11 No. 1 Christian radio singles, a GRAMMY® Award, two Billboard Music Awards, 16 Dove Awards, one platinum and four gold albums, Chris Tomlin is among the most well known and infl uential artists in contemporary Christian music. Referred to by TIME Magazine as most likely the most often sung artist anywhere, ASCAP s 2007 Songwriter of the Year Chris Tomlin landed his first No. 1 on the CCLI Top 25 with How Great Is Our God. The award-winning song moved to No. 1 after becoming one of the fasting rising modern day hymns in CCLI chart history. Tomlin continues to tour many dates every year and plays regularly at Passion Conferences in the States and worldwide. Along with Pastor and Communicator Louie Giglio, Tomlin serves at Passion City Church in Atlanta, GA, and leads worship at the annual Passion Conference, which drew 42,000+ university aged students in 2012.

5.0 out of 5 stars Chris Tomlin [Burning Lights] January 8, 2013
Format:Audio CD
Chris Tomlin, the worship leader, musician and songwriter behind hit songs "How Great Is Our God," "Jesus Messiah" and "Our God," is unveiling his newest collection of music, Burning Lights. Opening with an instrumental vibe, "Burning Lights" leads seamlessly into the standout song "Awake My Soul" featuring Lecrae. The song displays a more contemporary sounding side of Chris Tomlin who opened his last three albums with the worship anthems "Our God," "Sing, Sing, Sing" and "How Can I Keep from Singing." Tomlin's last album, Grammy winning And If Our God Is For Us... ushered in musical experimentation with electronic beats, strings and gang vocals, mixed with his traditional Brit-rock worship style. This album has trademark songs expressing biblical truth combined with some personal lyrics reflecting his walk with the Lord. I was pleased to discover that balance, in particular from the lyrics "Speak to me, Word of God, speak to me" which reflects the seeking of God's presence in each song, accentuated by Lecrae's rapping the Truth from Ezekiel, "Your Word gives life to my dry bones..." Amen.

"Whom Shall I Fear (God of Angel Armies)" is chock full of the Truth that as Christians, we need to have full reliance on God to deal with the struggles of life. The song perfectly expresses that dependence: "I'm holding on to Your promises, You are faithful...I know Who goes before me, I know Who stands behind, The God of Angel armies, is always on my side, The One Who reigns forever, He is a friend of mine." "Lay Me Down" is an unashamed declaration of faith and desire to serve God in the same musical rock style as "I Will Wait" by Mumford & Sons. "I lay me down, I am not my own, I belong to You alone, lay me down, lay me down...

4.0 out of 5 stars Review of Chris Tomlin's "Burning Lights" January 8, 2013
Format:Audio CD
Prime Cuts: Whom Shall I Fear (God of Angel Armies), Crown Him (Majesty), Shepherd Boy

What is about Chris Tomlin that has made him one of the most influential global worship artists around? Across the world each Sunday, churches are using the songs of Tomlin such as "Jesus Messiah," "Our God," "Jesus My Redeemer," "How Great is Our God" as soundtracks for lifting up the name of Jesus in worship. Recently, as an indication of Tomlin's international worldwide influence, his hit "Our God" was recorded in a quadruple of languages namely Portuguese, Spanish, Russian and Mandarin. And such a pandemic streak is not about to end any time soon with the release of "Burning Lights." "Burning Lights," Tomlin's eighth solo studio record, is definitely going to continue to even aggrandize this sweeping phenomena. Central to Tomlin's success is that he is at heart a worshipper of the Almighty God. As a result via his songs he is able to capture the grandeur of God by building up to anthemic heights of explosive praise yet embracing simple but ear catching riffs that the casual listener could sing-a-long with. Also, his rich and even-keeled tenor with flourishes of strong emotional intensities (not unlike Matt Redman) is a surplus. Further, unlike many singer-songwriters who are quite hesitant to share the song crafting pie, Tomlin is humble enough to write and build on the contributions of fellow writers. This time round on this new disc, we find notable writers such as Phil Wickham, Matt Maher, Ed Cash, Matt Redman and the ubiquitous SESAC Christian Songwriter of the Year Jason Ingram co-writing with him.

Never one to rest on his laurels, with "Burning Lights" Tomlin continues to provide the church with new and future worship classics.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tomlin's Best Effort to Date January 9, 2013
Format:Audio CD
I always look forward to a new Chris Tomlin release. Anyone who follows contemporary worship music will admit that Tomlin is a tremendous talent. But his talent is not the main attraction. Sure his music is good but what makes him a special artist is the depth of songs he writes and sings. Some themes come to mind that seem to keep making their way into Tomlin's music: the majesty of God, the gospel, the cross of Christ, the sinfulness of man, and the grace of God.

"Whom shall I Fear" is driving song that points saints to our trustworthy God:

My strength is in Your name, for You alone can save/You will deliver me, Yours is the victory/Whom shall I fear?/Whom shall I fear?/I know who goes before me/I know who stands behind, the God of angel armies is by my side/The One who reigns forever, He is a friend of mine/The God of angel armies is always by my side.

And nothing formed against me shall stand/You hold the whole world in your hands/I'm holding on to Your promises/You are faithful, You are faithful.

"White Flag" is an anthem that invites rebels to surrender to the King of the universe. With a U2 feel, the song is a bold affirmation of the penal substitutionary atonement and the sufficiency of Christ's cross:

The battle rages on as storm and tempest roar/We cannot win this fight, inside our rebel hearts/We're laying down our weapons now/We raise our white flag, we surrender all to You, all for You/We raise our white flag, the war is over, love has come, Your love has won.

Here on this holy ground, You made a way for peace/Laying your body down, You took our rightful place/This freedom song is marching on!
