5.0 out of 5 stars ELVIS WAS THE VERY BEST EVER!
Elvis was the most talented in his field. He was very gifted and very spiritual. There will never be another to follow in his footsteps. ELVIS WAS THE VERY BEST EVER!

Burning Love was one of Elvis' best recordings period. Unfortunately Elvis' management never figured out how to package and market his albums. Instead of releasing a new album featuring his big hit single, they opted for the quick and easy buck by packaging the hit with a bunch of older, so-so songs from his movies.

In order to be able to release several albums a year, Elvis' management had started packaging his new singles with some of his old songs releasing them as a "new" album. While it may have been a way to make a fast buck, Elvis' new material deserved better and should have been packaged with other new songs and treated as a major release, rather than a budget release. While the song Burning Love went all the way to number 2 on the Billboard singles chart and number 1 on the rival Cashbox chart, the album only managed to climb to 22 on the album chart. Elvis had enough new material at the time to put out a high-quality new album that probably would have done much better on the chart. As it was, they pretty much wasted his biggest hit of the 1970s by putting it on an album with a bunch of dated material.

4.0 out of 5 stars A 70's flashback, May 20, 2011

My mom used to buy me these RCA Camden Elvis albums because they were low priced. So I was ecstatic to get one with Elvis' biggest hit of the 70's as the title track. In a better world, though, "Burning Love" would've been saved for an album of all new material from Elvis. Combine it with other tracks recorded around the same time (like "It's a Matter of Time", also on this album/cd; "Separate Ways", "Always on My Mind", "Fool", "Where Do I Go From Here"), and it would be a good, contemporary album of 1972 Elvis. As a budget release, though, this is pretty nice. Sure, a lot of the songs in Elvis' movies weren't top drawer, but the ones here are very enjoyable, even if they weren't "hits". "Tender Feeling", "Am I Ready" and "No More" are among his better movie ballads, he sings every song wonderfully, and the instrumental support is always excellent. This is a cd I play a lot, it brings back a lot of memories.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Ballad Elvis, November 11, 2008
This review is from: Burning Love and Hits from His Movies, Vol. 2 (Audio CD)
Still don't understand why some of the mixes are so astonihsingly bad; unless the Producers/Engineers understood that with a voicebox like that, the more *presence* the better! The guyz are gonna be a little uncomfortable with Elvis whispering to their chickz on "Am I Ready?" but baby, that is Rock and Roll. (Even if it's a mushy romantic ballad). Interesting to compare the outtake from "Collector's Gold" to the finished, originally released take: Presley's modifications are typically creative....and amazing. Any detractors out there with any sense of musical appreciation, bend an ear to this one.

The stereo separation is too much, but, on the other hand, if you really want to hear the instrumentation, it works. Alot has been written about rotten support on these movie tracks. Only problem with things like "We'll Be Together" or "No More" is that the skinny mix needed some "fattening".

Yes, "No More" is based upon Classical, as is "Tonight Is So Right For Love", "I Love Only One Girl" (if you're waiting for an echo of "Good Rockin' Tonight", you'll have to pass on this track, friend), and "Tender Feeling" (based on a Folk Classic); Elvis did a ton of Classical rewrites. Not a turkey amonst them. The overcritical-critic in me still says that Elvis could have projected with more chest tone of a couple of these, but...baby, that is Rock and Roll.

Gotta say something to the above well-meaning Amazon Reviewer: "It only got to number 22?". A 24 minute album? I'm no industry insider but I would submit that RCA would have been thrilled to see it make number 90! It's a collection of leftovers for folks who don't buy alot of records or count the quarters.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. We've heard (and read) all the criticisms of Elvis' management and the Camden albums before. I'm not saying that some of it isn't justified, but c'mon, it's been 35 years or more since the Camden albums were released. Get over it!! Just sit back and enjoy the music.

If you still remember how. All the other "stuff" doesn't matter now.
