This review is from: Burning March (Dave Garrett Mystery) (Paperback)
"Burning March", the author's third Dave Garrett mystery, starts out with our PI hero visiting his former stomping grounds: the law firm where he was a partner before he got disbarred. He intended to visit the head bookkeeper, but then he hears that she died in a fire that looks accidental. Garrett suspects it is a homicide, and tries to uncover the dark secrets of his former law firm. He finds betrayal, incompetance, and ultimately, a somewhat sympathetic killer. In between, he is hunted by some thugs that have had a hand in the death he was investigating. Ending is a bit of a twist, and the part where Garrett has to illegally pretend he can still practice law is really good. 3 and 1/2 stars.
