Classic Ray Price - done two ways,
By
This review is from: Burning Memories / Touch My Heart (Audio CD)
I owned both of these albums back in the 60's (they're now long gone). After getting the re-release of Night Life awhile back, I could not resist purchasing this 2 album deal. It was well worth it. Being a singer and musician in Houston for 40 years now, I have always considered Ray Price my favorite country singer. He had the tremendous vocal range and vibrato with just enough "gravel" to show real emotion. Although most of his pop fame came in the 70's after "For the Good Times", I think his best vocal work was in the 60's. "Burning Memories" shows the predecessor to the 70's work, but the songs are so well performed that even "hard country shuffle finatics" cannot deny how good these songs are. "Touch my Heart" goes back to the typical shuffle tunes, but again, they are so well done that you have to marvel at his talent.

A great reissue ! My dad owned both of these albums so I remember hearing them alot. For me the standout disc is Burning Memories . Gorgeous early sixties Nashville sound ! Touch My Heart ( Ray's last straight country album before the career changing Danny Boy ) is more stripped down and a little repetitive but still classy stuff.

2 classic albums on one disc,
By Darrin Warren (Osburn, Idaho) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Burning Memories / Touch My Heart (Audio CD)
I really was thrilled to see these 2 albums on one disc. Both from the mid 60's when Ray was starting to feature a more countrypolitan sound. "Burning memories" written by Mel Tillis was a big hit in 1964 reaching number 2, other hits on this album included "You took her off my hands" "Thats all that matters" and a song written by a "then" rocker by the name of Conway Twitty called "Walk me to the door" a top 10 hit in 1963. The album "Touch my heart" from 1967 was an number 1 album with its share of hits and favorites. A must have for Price fans!!!

different from LP's,
This review is from: Burning Memories / Touch My Heart (Audio CD)
I thought that this CD was made from the origanal LP's and it isn't.The songs are the same but are remakes, hence the instrumentals are different and the tempo is a little slow compared to the origanal.

At least all of us reviewers appreciate him. I don't know how I didn't hunt this one out when I first discovered Amazon 2 years ago. I've just been going from page to page looking at them all, and finally ran across this one. I was almost electrified by shock when I ran across it. Two of my favorites on one CD. (The other one being Night Life). It just seemed too good to be true. But it isn't. I got it in the mail yesterday and I've played it 8 times already. I went to sleep last night with it playing in my ear. It's like I've got them on my turntable listening to them again. But this CD sounds so much better, if I can remember correctly. I can remember my husband and I going out on our customary Saturday night date when we would get a sitter for the kids and there was a band at the Chief's Club on the Navy Base, called Jim House's band, and he did all of Ray's songs, and I must admit he did an awesome job of it. I could put my head on my husband's shoulder while we were dancing and almost pretend it was Ray. However, there can't ever be another Ray. I don't have any idea where Jim is now, but I am just thrilled that Ray is still around. Bless his heart he deserves much more attention and appreciation than he has received from the CMA. I joined his fan club a few years ago. So now I can keep up with him. Touch My Heart is my all time favorite album of his. I still have it and Burning Memories in my special storage shed for all of my LPs. I played them once or twice and cassettes came into being and I immediately taped them and slid my LPs back on the shelf never to be played again. For fear of scratching them. I don't know what I'm saving them for. I can't take them with me, I know, but I just can't watch them being destroyed, which is what I'm afraid will happen. My children and grandchildren don't like my kind of music. Even though my children listened to it every day of their lives when they were small and growing up. Maybe I burned them out on it. They soon switched to that stupid 70's stuff that was on the radio at the time they turned into teens. Alas, I had lost all control of them by then. The grandchildren:!!?? Well, they're into that wild, loud, thump thump thumping of that headbanging stuff. I don't know what else to call it. But it seems to be coming out the sides of their heads since there is a wire always hanging from their ears. I have never gotten burned out on anything Ray Price sings. I am just thrilled to pieces with this CD (2 in 1 no less). Two of my favorite albums by him. Touch My Heart is probably my favorite song. I had no idea it was written partly by Johnny Paycheck. I remember he used to play in Ray's band long time ago. And that Hank Cochran - my lordy, he and Ray Price were just made to go together. I think he wrote the songs specifically for Ray. And there's always Willie also. He didn't do too badly with Ray singing his songs. I had no idea there were so many Ray Price fans until I logged onto Amazon the first time. I thought I was one of a few. I should have known better. Something that good can't be kept a secret for very long. I remember him from back into the early 50's but I had no idea at the time that all of those songs were so popular with anyone else but me. Although, they played his music on the radio there in my town a lot, but I thought they were playing it just for me. I'm glad to finally find out I'm not the only one who appreciates him.

I truely enjoy this cd. It's exactly the older country I was looking for.
It has the sound of the original rather than the more modern versions. I relied on the reviews from other buyers before I purchased this and was not dissappointed. Jodi

Honky-Tonk Heaven,
By
This review is from: Burning Memories / Touch My Heart (Audio CD)
When Ray Price eventually shuffles off this mortal coil, he is a certainty to front heaven's Honky Tonk Angels. These two albums (Touch My Heart and Burning Memories) contain 23 superb expressions of broken hearts, broken dreams and tear-stained memories. I was suprised to find that Burning Memories was recorded before Touch My Heart as the former is more countrypolitan than the stripped-down, latter. I find the strings and backing vocals of "Memories" sometimes get in the way and overwhelm the essence of the songs. I much prefer the fiddles, steel, off-the-beat piano and tic-tac bass of "Heart". It makes the arrangements on "Heart" a bit samey but then too much of a good thing is never enough. Also, the nylon string guitar of Grady Martin on "Heart" is fantastic and the bass of the much under-rated Harold Bradley is the glue that holds many of these songs together. This is not to say that "Memories" is a bad album, it contains many beautiful moments but I cannot help but imagine what producer Roy Dea (of late, great Gary Stewart fame) would have done with these songs and the smooth voice of Mr Price. Overall, these two albums showcase one of the best voices in country music doing some of the best country songs with a host of great Nashville musicians. What more could you ask for? If the woman that you love has left you, you like country shuffles and enjoy a beer or two, then get this album, a box of beer to get that "done me wrong" feeling and a box of tissues to wipe away the ensuing tears. You'll soon be in heartbreak heaven.

This collection, just as each and every other album of Ray Price, stands to serve as reminder of what the benchmark of "REAL DANCEHALL MUSIC" is all about. It's incredible shuffle beats and hauntingly sad lyrics will provide memories that will last throughout time immemorial.
