Morgan Hennessy is a very successful attorney in Raleigh, North Carolina. Work has been her life since the break up of her three-year marriage to Evan, but she had no intention of dating since she was still in love with him. Dexter Canfield was an associate in her firm who would not take no for an answer. She had been firm with him, but he never seemed to take the hint, so she was annoyed to find him standing in her office doorway one evening. It was that night that changed her life forever, and she found out the hard way just who Dexter Canfield was when he set her on fire.

When Evan found out about what had happened to Morgan, he decided to bring her home where she belonged. He had never stopped missing her since she walked out on him, and he was determined to protect her because he didn't think Canfield was done with her yet. Evan had also decided that he and Morgan were destined to be together, and he was so sorry he didn't realize it before. He just had to prove it to her. Morgan belonged with him here in Skyler where they could build a life and a future.

As Canfield gets closer to Skyler, he leaves a trail of bodies and destruction along the way. Evan knows he is coming for Morgan, and he will sacrifice anything including his life if it means that she is safe.

Good suspenseful read that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I cannot think of anything more horrific and painful than feeling your own flesh burn. Evan and Morgan are well-developed characters with lots of chemistry. They keep you involved and rooting for them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very moving, December 10, 2007

Book description<<When all hell breaks loose, there's only one way to run.

Morgan Hennessy is a high-powered, North Carolina attorney who's spent the past five years trying to forget her failed marriage to someone she'd once considered to be her best friend. Just when she thinks she's gotten things together, the attentions of a colleague turn obsessive. Alive after one vicious attack, Morgan knows only one person can protect her now. Her ex-husband. The one man who still owns her heart.

Evan Hennessy, the small town sheriff of Skyler, North Carolina, has never forgotten the love he shared with his ex-wife and when she returns to his town, needing protection, he can't refuse her. To do so would mean denying his own heart. And when she needs him to reassure her she's as sexy as she once was despite her scars, Evan will do that, too. She walked out on him once and he's been waiting five years for her return. Hell itself won't be able to tear her out of his arms this time.>>

I loved reading this book. I had tears in my eyes while reading this one. I was on the edge of my seat until the end. What Morgan and Evan had to go through to get their happy ending, really moved me.

I have to say this is one of the best books I've read in a long time. Ms. Carrington grabbed my attention on the first page and kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the entire book. The suspenseful plot, delicious twists and turns, and totally unexpected ending made this book a 5+!

For those of you who enjoy suspense with your romance, this one is a must have for your library.

5.0 out of 5 stars Burning Reflections, January 25, 2008
This review is from: Burning Reflections (Paperback)
As an attorney, Morgan Hennessy was used to dealing with low-lifes. However, she never anticipated a spurned co-worker to attack her. As she recuperated in the hospital, she knew that he was still out there and would continue to stalk her until he had finished what he had set out to do.

Evan Hennessy had absolutely no intention of allowing Morgan to be a victim again. Although he may not have any rights as an ex-husband, he definitely had rights as a friend and sheriff, to make sure that she was safe while she journeyed through her recovery. She needed the comfort of friends and family and he was determined to make sure that happened.

He was also determined to find a way for Morgan to see that not only could they work together during this, they should be together as man and wife again too.

The opening sequence of Burning Reflections sent spine tingling sensations as Morgan faces her attacker. It is shocking and paves the way for the reader to be intensely aware of the danger posed by the attacker's continued evasion of the authorities. Intermixed with this elevated awareness is the intense passion that Evan feels for Morgan. They love each other; there is no question about that. The question is, can Evan overcome the obstacles Morgan has placed between them? Rachel Carrington has written a page-turner that I couldn't put down. I will definitely be looking for more stories by her.

I read this book sometime in October. This is the first book I read by this author. It kept me interested from beginning to end. It had just the right amount of action and romance. I agree with everyone's review about this book. It was a great read.
