Book Description

September 1985
The passionate love of a beautiful French aristocrat for a courageous South African aviator is begun and extinguished in the blazing skies of war-torn France. But Centaine de Thiry is bent on realizing some of the dreams which she and Michael Courtney has shared—and sets out to seek a future for his unborn child in the country of Michael's birth. But she must first brave all the combined terrors of war, shipwreck, thirst, fever, and the burning vastness of Namibia's Skeleton Coast before she sees another living soul.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Only, July 23, 1999
By A Customer
As most of Wilbur Smith's novels, Burning Shore is located in Africa - this time in Southwestern Africa (now Namibia). The novel is placed in the long link of novels about the South Arfican Courtneys. I normaly feel that Smith's novels are written for guys, but Bruning Shore is the only one I also have recommended to my wife. She loved it - it's a mixture of the adventurous and heroic - the exciting and lovable. READ IT - man or woman.

5.0 out of 5 stars A truly gripping read!!!, May 20, 1999
By A Customer
This is a truly gripping novel, NO!, I take that back, it's an adventure, once you start reading it's no longer just a book, it is real, as though you were experiancing it. When Centaine is scampering up a tree avoiding the ferocious jaws of the terrifying lion below, you are scampering up the tree with her, giving her a push and saying get up there you must save the baby!!! You cry with her when the tribesmen are so brutely slaughtered. You cheer with her when baby Michael is born healthy and strong. You reminisce with her of long past times with her father before the war. And so on and so forth, but to cut to the chase, it's a good read give it a go mate.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding storytelling!!!, August 26, 1998
By A Customer
Centaine de Thiry meets Michael Courtney, and then her amazing journey begins. The tragedies she endures develop her strengths and she blooms. Wilbur Smith spins the story of her life without any dull moments. There are quite a few surprises along the way. It's a difficult book to put down and it leaves you longing for the story to continue...which it does, thankfully, in the Power of the Sword.
