Thinking man's metal of the highest caliber. Great playing, impassioned vocals, and unique, intelligent subject matter lyrically. Fantastic *****

5.0 out of 5 stars A masterpiece that never reached the masses, September 27, 2008
This review is from: Burning Time (Audio CD)
I like it all. I'm all about the 80's...started with Dio on the Last in Line tour. So I grew up with metal/progressive music. I'm also a musician (bassist for over 20 years now).

This album is a masterpiece. It is unique, but it has all of the influences from the golden era (the 80's). It came out when that era was on its way out (early 90's), so sadly it never was as big as it should have been.

Incredible singer, unique and very interesting guitar, bass has a sick tone and jams out, the drums are progressive and solid. The singer has power, sounds like U2 gone metal. Most importantly, the songs are catchy but are a whole new thing. Different, but just great music. You can make what you want from the introspective lyrics.

All that I can say is if you missed this album the first time around and like King's X, Metallica, Badlands, Queensryche, or Fates Warning, this album is for you. Listen to it about 5 times and it will be one of your favorites ever.

Bring Back Last Crack!

Last Crack! The most overlooked band out of Madison Wisconsin during the early 90's. If you are a true hard rock/metal lover pick this up, you will not be disappointed!

Following up Sinister Funkhouse #17, Last Crack dishes out an album here that defies genre labeling. From Wicked Sandbox to Energy Mind and Mack Bolasses, this album combines the powerful vocals of Buddo, the excellent guitar and bass tone, and the energized drumming all coming together and making something truly powerful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Groove Metal preveyor of Post-Metal, March 9, 2011

I just bought this CD again, having lost it almost 20 years ago. I thought I just remembered the song "Energy Mind", and was anxious to hear it again.

Upon popping the CD in, I instantly remembered the other songs on the record. The 1st four songs are amazing. "My Burning Time", "Mini Toboogan", "Energy Mind", & "Wicked Sandbox" took me back to the 1st time I ever heard this CD.

I never paid attention to Last Crack on the first album, largely becuase I was a major metalhead...and questioned an album cover with a naked man on it!!!! That was back then.

Last Crack is like the beginnings of what the Post-metal genre is now. They were very ecclectic & original. Strangely enough, they were signed to a major metal label at the time (RoadRacer).

If you get tired of modern music, or want to try something from the early 90's (before metal began to phase out), give last Crack a spin.
