Ranelle's story of the horrible plane crash and the awful burns she endures are only part of the story. The most amazing part of the tale is the near death experiance she has when she dies. The overlaying message is love is one of the most important things about this life. The way you treat people will count for much when you leave this. Many people already know this but...

Not a book I would personally recommend. The author had a difficult situation, but I didn't feel inspired after reading the book. This surprised me, because I am a deeply spiritual person. I thought the author was indulgent and the book was sad and depressing. It was certainly an example of what not to do.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! What an Amazing Story !!, May 13, 2002

All I can say about this book is WOW! This true story is so amazing for many reasons, that I simply could not put it down from the minute I started reading it. I had a husband to greet and a dinner to cook, but I couldn't put the book down. RaNelle and Terry's ordeal from their plane crash is told in graphic, heart-wrenching, horrifying detail. Again I say WOW! Absolutely incredible. I'm not gonna give details because you have to read it to see how extraordinary it is. Then, to me, the good part starts. RaNelle has a Near-Death Experience right after being rescued. What follows made me cry. I felt her pain, fear and wonder. Her descriptions of the Other Side are breathtaking, astounding, and there are lessons to be learned for all of us who want to listen. Please, do yourself a favor and get this book.....if you do, God meant for you to have it.

This is the best life-after-death account I've ever read, and has actually changed my perspective on why we're here and what matters. Regardless of your religious beliefs, this book will really make you think.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Spiritual Journey, December 26, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Burning Within (Hardcover)
After her plane crashed, Ranelle Wallace, burning like a human torch, watched her husband, apparently burning up inside their small plane. She cried out to God, and a man that only her husband saw, lifted him out of the plane. Only his hands were injured, but Ranelle, once in the hospital, had a beautiful near-death experience, which affected her thinking and her spirituality ever since.

In spite of her spiritual awakening, Ranelle was still human, and struggled with doubts and life choices, most importantly whether she should stay with her husband and bear more children. Having met her future child Nathaniel in the heavenly realm during her NDE, her decision was made even more difficult.

The reader is carried with Ranelle on an emotional and spiritual ride, to heighths and depths of passion. One wonders how she/he would fare in similar circumstances. Ranelle's life is a miracle, but her experiences help the reader realize all of our lives are a miracle, a precious temporary gift in this plane that serves a somewhat mysterious, yet vital purpose.

5.0 out of 5 stars More than a Near Death Experience, April 26, 2011
By
Thinkpolicy (Manassas, VA, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Burning Within (Hardcover)
I've read Near Death Experience accounts for more than 30 years, and in most cases I'm able to walk away with an enhanced perspective on my little life on this planet. The "Burning Within" offered me much more.

The account of Job in the Old Testament helps register a value on human suffering and especially the value of overcoming human suffering. By overcoming I mean suffering without losing perspective, love, faith, or patience. One can die of cancer but still overcome it by maintaining those values. But Job's account was some time ago and written in language of allegory leading some to wonder if Job was a man who really suffered, or only a useful object lesson.

Enter the "Burning Within." RaNelle's story is no distant history, no allegory. She is flesh and blood living today, and her story provides no escape from reality or the thousands-of-years buffer insulating us from Job. RaNelle terrifies us with the detailed account of her suffering, but reminds us that there are others who have suffered more. But of course, her story is not about suffering. Her message is one of perspective, love, faith, and patience, which can be enhanced in our Maker's refining fire.

It's the combination of the depth of her physical suffering contrasted by the brilliance of her visit to the after-life that gives greater power to her life, to her incredibly moving story, and her lesson for the rest of us. And in my experience, this lesson has never been told better. I will always be grateful to RaNelle Wallace for her book, because I will never be the same for having read it.

I read this book about 8 or 9 years ago and then indulged in it again last year. I re-read it after I chose it as "my book" for our reading club. I have to say that every lady loved it as much as I did. Everyone came to the review and we talked about it the entire dinner which is unheard of.

Ranelle is so talented with the way she brings you into her life during this horrible tragedy and whisps you thru her struggles.

I love this book and truly recommend it to all!
