I rarely buy strategy guides, but the others I have for Nintendo Mario games are much more detailed and player friendly. This review is for the Xbox 360 version of this game.

The fabled Paradise City where this game takes place is complex with lots of roads, shortcuts, secret areas, and alternate routes (train tracks, dirt roads and so forth). At every intersection there are events such as races, burning routes (time-limited dash between two points in the city), road rages (take out a certain number of competitive cars before time runs out) and so forth.

The guide almost always uses intersections to locate these features as if the reader is already familiar with them instead of marking them on a map.

In addition, the tip sections refer to information in previous tips, sometimes causing you to read back through several tips in order to get the whole story (still need to know the intersections, too).

I had almost completed the game before purchasing this guide to help me locate the last little obscure bits, but it took some head scratching to make heads or tails of the info inside. Buy it if you need it, but search online for player-made guides first.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not Happy - Again, February 19, 2008

The old adage -Fool me once.... etc.

Well I will not be fooled again with the Prima books. Like the review above, none of the areas are marked on the map as they should be.

A big map is given (probably to compensate for Prima's inability to provide an excellent guide) with a matrix on it; okay that's good but none of the areas that you need to get achievements are details. I could go on but I don't want to bore you anymore. It suffices to say check with other players instead of

purchasing any Prima books!

my review of this book is that it gives alot to player to help find things in the game you wouldnt normally find with the game alone without driving and looking every where this book really helps narrow the search of billboards and gates.

3.0 out of 5 stars Burnout Strategy Guide Review, March 27, 2009
This review is from: Burnout Paradise (Prima Official Game Guide) (Paperback)
It's a good strategy guide for those new to the burnout series. Also if you are looking to get 100% completion in Burnout Paradise.Shows you where all yellow gates, burnout signs, and stunt ramps are located. I would recommend this to anyone.

I'm glad I ignored the negative reviews here, because I found the guide to be very well written and easy to use. There are tons of maps throughout this guide explaining where *almost* everything is.

Many things are listed by intersection, but it's only after the author gives the map location; indicated by either a grid location (B3 for example), or by item number (1, 2, 3, and so on). All of these items are very easy to find on the corresponding maps. After finding the map location, the intersections are VERY close by. Anyone with a high-school diploma should be able to figure it out.

The only gripe I have with the guide is that I found some of my own useful ways to do things, that differed from the guide (or that the guide did not go into much detail about), but that's how it goes. A few tips that I found:

1. For the road rules, speed rules, I used the "Rossolini LM Track Package" car (or the "Rossolini LM Classic"). Both cars have great grip. I did not boost very much at all (the guide says to boost a lot). I also did not drive full-throttle (probabaly half throttle). It was more important to not crash, IMO. If I found myself crashing a lot, I would either try driving slower, or change to an aggression car. 2nd street, for example, has a LOT of cross-traffic. For this cross-traffic I used an aggression type car like the "Krieger Pioneer", and boosted a lot. I eventually set the game to midday to make driving easier (night driving is tough). They are patching the lighting soon, so that might help.

2. For stunt runs there are often patches of areas in the city that have lots of super jumps and billboards. You can often start a stunt run in one part of the city and drive to the other side with no effort. Oncoming traffic is great for boost so that you can keep that combo going. The guide explains where some of these areas are, but not all of them. You'll be able to find them pretty easily though. My favorite place for multipliers is Webster street; there's a super jump below it too. Usually I will start a run with jumps near one of the railroad track areas, next go to the X-looking area NE of the corner of 2nd street and Root Ave. (1x billboard, and 2x super jumps, 1x for air (if you get air), then head to webster, and finally end the run by grabbing multipliers in the SE near the baseball stadium (these SE locations are in the guide). I generally avoided doing barrel rolls because they are likely to fail. Barrel rolls are being patched soon, so expect them to be easier in the future.

3. For the 4x boost chain trophy get the slowest racing car (the Nakamura SI-7) start a stunt run to reduce traffic, and head to oncoming traffic on I-88. I chose the stunt run at the corner of Anderson and Angus Wharf in the east, and use the I-88 ramp on webster street. Hold down boost the whole time, and stay in oncoming traffic. Do not press the gas; boosting alone should provide enough speed, and oncoming traffic will provide the boost recharging. Don't use breaks or your chain might break. I heard playing online also reduces traffic.

4. For driving off the top of parking garages, I chose a car with high acceleration and front-wheel drive: Nakamura SI-7 or Nakamura Racing SI-7 (I can't remember). Some of the faster cars accelerate too slowly, or they don't seem to grip well when jumping from rooftop to rooftop. the SI-7 does pretty well.

I'm sure you'll find your own ways of doing things, but I figured it couldnt hurt too much if I shared my own thoughts.

Good book, too much detail lol. All secrets revealed, but I only use it to check car stats, more fun this way.
