5.0 out of 5 stars Just great fun
It boils down to this: this game is about sitting down and just having fun. You don't have to deal with incredibly realistic driving scenarios. There are no cops to avoid. Instead you go fast and look for new races.

Turnover in the cars and the plethora of races makes this game repeatedly playable. Even my young kids can drive the cars and enjoy the...

1.0 out of 5 stars Frustrating, not fun
I enjoyed the previous Burnout games on the XBOX, so when I bought a new gaming rig, this title seemed like a natural. Alas, I was disappointed.

The menus are fantastically awkward. For example, every time you start the game, you must log into the on-line system, which requires typing in your login and password. You cannot do this using just the keyboard; you...

1.0 out of 5 stars Frustrating, not fun, November 25, 2010
= Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box (DVD-ROM)
I enjoyed the previous Burnout games on the XBOX, so when I bought a new gaming rig, this title seemed like a natural. Alas, I was disappointed.

The menus are fantastically awkward. For example, every time you start the game, you must log into the on-line system, which requires typing in your login and password. You cannot do this using just the keyboard; you have to fill in one field, hit return, click on the next field with the mouse, and so on. Quitting the game is even stranger: you have to navigate (in a non-obvious way) through several screens, including ads for expansions you already purchased as part of this box. This feels like a bad console port.

The central idea of driving around the city to find your missions doesn't work. There isn't really much to do but try to find the part of the game you actually want to play. One is reminded of the "flying over the file structure" interface seen in Jurassic Park: it sounds cute, but it just gets in the way.

The events themselves are acceptable, but at least the first few are unchallenging. Nothing drives you forward or makes you want to keep playing. You can unlock more cars, but you don't care.

The makers of Burnout Paradise should take a lesson from the vastly more satisfying Grid: there should be a challenge in winning the game, not in fighting the interface.

4.0 out of 5 stars really fun for pc - worth my 5 bucks on steam, January 6, 2011
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box (DVD-ROM)
I downloaded this game because I've always loved the Burnout series with the crashing, the racing and endless boost. I was able to get it for 5 dollars on Steam's holiday sale and it was worth every penny.

The only annoying things are the menu system, and finding your races and missions in a huge map with no teleport feature for quick play.

5.0 out of 5 stars One amazingly fun game, August 25, 2011

I hadn't played any of the Burnout series games in a while before I got this, and boy was that a mistake. This game is loads of fun. Tons of different cars, SUVs, trucks, and even a few bikes to choose from. You'll never race the same race twice in this game. It's so much fun just to crash and bash anything in sight, all while trying to reach the finish line. The different types of game modes give the game that extra "oomph" that sets it apart from other games in the car racing class of video games. Not to mention the multiplayer can be very entertaining. I would definitely recommend this game to anyone looking for some awesome arcade style crash and bash racing with a great interface and play style.

Game works great, totally fun solo, or if you have people over for the party game. Online play is kind of limited, "freeburning" with a buddy really just lets you crash into eachother for no real purpose, and go to races. Was hoping you could do stunt runs and stuff together. The installation went by smoothly but the product verification had a hiccup in it that forced me to use customer support and have them manually verify that my product was official.

The best part is the crashing! If you like to crash into cars, walls, and watch your car get ripped apart, this is the game for you! The racing aspect is a little strange for me, but that's just me.

Although I'm more of an "Adventure PC Game" player, this game has incredible graphics, physics and mucho real estate to "play/compete" in! I played 5 hours straight the first time, I don't think I ever did anything for that long except work!!!!! Get it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Extreme Burnouts, October 12, 2010

= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box (DVD-ROM)
I recently purchased this game for my Windows 7 gaming setup. The game exceeds my expectations in virtually every way imaginable and is one of the few pure pleasures in PC gaming. I am used to games such as Crysis, Modern Warfare 2, etc, and the graphics are easily on par with those types of releases if not better. What those games had done for their genre, Burnout Paradise does for racing games.

First, the graphics are incredible. Both the vehicles and landscape appear in a very crisp high definition without the slightest lack in detail. The sun reflects off objects, the lights and vehicles shine, it's pure visual bliss. All the while not being too heavily demanding on a graphics card. Playing on an Alienware M11x, I can easily max out every possible setting without the slightest lag.

Second, the game is not too difficult yet is still challenging. At first the races let you feel confident and build your collection of vehicles(which can be given automatically into your "junkyard"), but will become more challenging as you progress. It's no point having a game that lets you win every race, or one that just frustrates you beyond belief.

In conclusion, you certainly want this game! If you love racing games, a high visual treat to your senses, and pure fun...this is the perfect game.
