3.0 out of 5 stars Desert Living
I bought this book in hopes of learning more about survival under the extremes of Death Valley. What I got was a collection of remembrances about the unusual characters that choose to live in the desert, and a very little about what was required in every day survival. 5.0 out of 5 stars fantastic slice of life, April 25, 2009
By
This review is from: Burro Bill and Me: Ramblings in the Arizona Desert (Paperback)
So wonderful to read such this story: the humor and hardship provide a slice of life into the early 20th century, where two people in their mid 30s decided to explore one of the last frontiers in the American west.

Don't pay any attention to reviews about survival; it's not as much about survival as adventure; it is a book about being on the road, albeit a dusty one with burros. Just my kind of book, I like the narration style. An entertaining read, start to finish; for entertaining Death Valley stories, it's neck-in-neck with Emmett Harder's "These Canyons Are Filled With Ghosts".

What I got was a collection of remembrances about the unusual characters that choose to live in the desert, and a very little about what was required in every day survival. It was entertaining and interesting. And it was remarkable that people would choose to live in such hostile conditions, but it wasn't really what I wanted. Decide what you want before you purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars The west in the mid 30's, February 15, 2008
This review is from: Burro Bill and Me: Ramblings in the Arizona Desert (Paperback)
Interesting book about a couple walking in the desert with burros in western U.S.. It tells about the problems they had an how they solved them with many different experiences. It might help if you have an interest in burros while reading this book.
