From the Back Cover

"Burst is a profound meditation of reality. From the hands of a talented writer and the heart of a faithful believer comes this riveting tale of courage, resilience and faith. I cannot imagine anyone who will not be moved by this stunning story of surrender to God's grace. Highly recommended." - Fr. James Martin, SJ., best-selling author of My Life with the Saints

"Every reader will find a compelling testimony to God's faithfulness and a source of encouragement as they seek to connect their daily lives to God and to trust in the power of prayer." - Cardinal Donald Wuerl, Archbishop of Washington D.C.

"I knew Kevin Wells when he was a sports writer, and even then I knew his words and his life would carry him far beyond playing fields and box scores. Burst is a story of near-death and all that life can be, of tragedy and triumph, of God's love and the splendor of faith, of a shining light named Tommy, a savior named Krista and three gifts from heaven above named Gabrielle, Sean and Shannon. Someone once said, "Faith isn't faith until it's all you're holding onto." Kevin's words and story take you in like that, in a warm spiritual embrace that never lets go." - Martin Fennelly, nationally-acclaimed sports columnist for the Tampa Tribune.

I had been waiting for this book to come out on Kindle, but my wife could wait no more and picked up a paperback copy the other night. First off, if you are going on a family vacation, be warned, a full day will be absorbed by this book. My wife starting reading it on a ride to West Virginia and had no interest in doing anything other than "one more chapter" for the entire first day of vacation (in the interest of full disclosure, i was pretty similar on day 2 when I got a chance to read it).

The book is a well written chronicling of Kevin's life, both good times and bad. It reminds me of the confessions of St Augustine and St Patrick, in that it doesn't paint an unrealistic picture of life. Instead, Kevin writes of not only the good times, but also his darkest hours, his doubts and struggles, and how faith saw him through even the toughest of times.

You could spend hundreds of dollars on self help books listed on amazon that will promise you happiness through financial independence, self improvement, exercise, health, or any number of others ways, this book shows you a path to all of that through faith and prayer.

It's the kind of book that you want to get an extra copy to give a friend because you don't want to risk not getting yours back.

Inspirational. Deep. Incredibly Thought-Provoking.

Kevin Wells has an incredible knack for story-telling which subtlety and sometimes quite blatantly hits you over the head with a life lesson. Burst is a very compelling tale of real life that delivers the message that the struggles that we encounter are actually opportunities to press onward with a greater appreciation of the gifts that we possess. Upon reading, one cannot help but to take a deeper look inside and examine what the pains in life really mean, and how these challenges can help transcend one to be more present, aware, and grateful. This is a must-read for multiple faiths, and not just for Catholics. Congratulations to the author and thank-you for the gift of your book.

Both my husband and I finished this book in one night. It completely pulled me in and compelled me to keep reading. Kevin's story of pain and triumph is well written and truly tangible. I appreciate his honestly and his incredible sense of humor. I laughed and I cried, but most importantly I felt drawn to strengthen my own relationship with God. I thank him for that gift.

Kevin Wells is captivating and gifted as he shares his walk in BURST: A STORY OF GOD'S GRACE WHEN LIFE FALLS APART. How does a "regular guy" learn to trust more deeply in God and rely more fully on his faith in the face of the unexpected? How can each of us do the same? Kevin's journey and his challenges inspire each one of us to also stop and say, "Your Will, Father, not mine." His description of his childhood and upbringing in a faith-filled, Catholic home inspires each parent to introduce our own children to a loving, daily relationship with Jesus. As we see in Kevin's story, the faith given to him by his parents undergirded him and prepared him to call upon Jesus for "the peace that passes all understanding" during desperation and tragedy. No one wants to face the truth that so many circumstances in our life are beyond our control. Yet, as Kevin Wells describes, the greatest gift of reaching for a daily intimacy with our Loving God is the realization that we do not HAVE to be in control. We only need to say, "Here am I, Lord; I come to do Your will."

This book will hit home for any person who has ever experienced pain through death, infertilty, depression, health issues or other real life experiences. It walks you through a real life account of someone who trusted God and is a testimony of the proof that God hears our prayers. I couldn't put it down.

Well, up to this point I have already handed out 4 books to people (with more on the way). Something I have never done before. I got the book out of the mailbox by 3:30pm and was finished by 10:00 that night. (Sometime that evening I must of made dinner, because my kids weren't starving!) Anyhow, I laughed, cried, and prayed (in that order) when reading the book. Kevin, in his God-given, talented way of writing, is able to captivate the very heart of his readers. I would strongly recommend this book to all parents, to people who have experienced the death of family or friends, experience infertility, struggling with lonliness, or those suffering from physical or emotional pain. You will find that with faith and God's great grace, it will all be for the Glory of God! Oh-sports enthusiasts, especially baseball, will enjoy it as well. Thank you, Kevin!

Burst is the Catholic memoir to read when you want a well-written, inspirational story that won't take weeks to complete. It's a small book with a big message and one-of-a-kind stories.

I met Kevin Wells through our editor. We both went through the same publishing house, Servant Books, and signed our books together at the National Shrine recently. What a great guy! He dubbed me "Servant Sister" and that makes him my "Servant Brother."

I bought his book, had him sign it for me, and immediately started reading it. It starts with him being taken to a hospital when his brain starts bleeding, and so the title, "Burst," refers to blood vessels bursting.

What Kevin suffered through will make anyone shake their head in dismay. How could this happen to a young father and husband in good health? But, severe illness and brushes with death can bring blessings, and through this book, Kevin shares his with us.

Suffering can refine people's perspective on life and bringing them closer to God. Kevin already had a close relationship with God prior to his illness, so I think that means that his pain and misery brought him especially close to God. Sitting in that spot with him may help you come to some important realizations too.

With this unique perspective, Kevin takes us through his early career as a sports writer, struggles with infertility, and the nightmare of losing his beloved uncle, Monsignor Wells, to a murderer. He takes us through the adoption of his three children and the healing power of God. I'm talking real physical healing...through the intercession of the saints. Yes - miracles still happen!

And the writing - oh the writing! He's a real pro. I re-read many of his exquisitely crafted sentences.
