4.0 out of 5 stars Back to basics. Fundamentals is always the answer!, October 7, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
What a great read. Health and wellness is your responsibility. The simple truth is that most illness and disease is preventable. Its all explained here in a very straight forward yet detailed way.

There is a big difference between getting older and aging. To avoid aging as we get older, back to basics is a great place to start: Drink plenty of clean water, not bottled or tap. Get plenty of sleep AND good rest, not pill induced sleep and manic vacations. Eat whole organic food not processed junk food. Exercise, do both resistance and cardio. Meditate. Take a few quality supplements. Get regular sunshine. Breathe clean air and get plenty of oxygen. Have some fun. These are the kinds of things that are so obvious yet we've become completely separated from how simple and powerful these simple things are a prescription for long lasting health and a vital life.

What's great about Bursting With Energy is that the 'WHY' is explained in detail so you have a genuine appreciation of just how powerful these lifestyle choices really are. And as both an MD and a Naturopath, Frank informs with a very broad yet even-handed approach.

I see my clients everyday in my Full Spectrum Coaching practice become transformed by the simple application of these principles. They drop weight, look younger and healthier, feel better, have more energy, are able to focus and concentrate like never before, have an awesome sex life, greater confidence, are more successful, and lead happier lives in general. What's really interesting is how much scientific data has come out in the last 15 years to support what are truly the secrets to happiness. In fact, I recommend they read this book as one of the support texts for the work we do together.

Honestly, this is as good or better than any comparable best seller on the market in terms of content and delivery. Nice job.

Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars RN trying to lose, September 29, 2005

This review is from: Bursting With Energy (Paperback)
This book takes scientific basics of nutrition and physiology and transcribe them into everyday language. The explanations for why things are the way they are with losing weight are very helpful and provide a moderate level of knowledge, but enough to allow the reader to make informed personal decisions. I especially liked the position the author took of making small changes while building to a bigger goal. We all know of failure from trying to "bite off more than we could chew." Great book! Wonderful lessons!

I love this book! I review it often to remind myself how basic the care of our health really is. All the key elements to stay healthy require no special searching. These key elements should be appreciated and used daily. Stay away from the sedentary lifestyle and processed foods out there. A must read if you ask me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can anyone help me figure out this equation?, January 23, 2012
By

Wasn't sure whether to give this book five stars or much less. Depends on whether a meaningful equation exists or not. On p. 118-119 (paperback edition) in discussing Energy Quotient, Shallenberger says when energy is being produced from fat plus oxygen, then ratio of CO2 to O2 in exhaled breath is 0.7 (CO2/O2=0.7), and that when energy is being produced from glucose plus oxygen, then ratio of Co2 to O2 in exhaled breath is 1.0 (CO2/O2=1.0). He further states that the relationship of carbon dioxide produced to oxygen consumed from fat and glucose is linear and that these three ratios can be used to determine what proportion of fat and glucose is being metabolized.

Suppose CO2/O2=0.9 (or 0.832, or whatever). Based on a CO2/O2 ratio of 0.9, plus the above two ratios (0.7 for fat burning and 1.0 for glucose burning) is it really possible to write an equation that shows what proportion of the energy is being produced from fat and what proportion from glucose? What would that equation be? 0.7(x%) + 1(y%)=0.9 obviously has two unknowns in one equation. If such an equation can be determined from the three ratios (0.9, 0.7, 1.0) then this is a very interesting and useful book. Otherwise, it's much less so.
