This product works and smells great.

So I'm not saying that it doesn't work at all, so if you're willing to keep slathering yourself over and over with this stuff, you'll probably be okay.

Also, the nastier kind of newly introduced mosquito sometimes did not mind the Burt's Bees on my body.

This is basically essential oils in a fast-absorbing carrier oil. Nice smell and good for moisturizing skin, BUT as an insect repellent, I can't say that it's very effective. I was in the Dominican Republic on vacation and I was reapplying this stuff every 30 minutes to an hour, cause the one hour I didn't, I got bitten about 10 times! It was horrible! I spent the entire vacation applying this stuff over and over during every free moment and before going outside. Plus, I had to make sure I covered my whole body each time I reapplied, or the patch that I didn't cover will get bitten!

So I'm not saying that it doesn't work at all, so if you're willing to keep slathering yourself over and over with this stuff, you'll probably be okay. Me, I think I'll look for something that lasts for at least 2 hours before I need to reapply. Pity because I really wanted a "natural" bug repellent.

Well, to start, I want to say that I am a HUGE Burt's Bees fan, so when I was looking for an all natural bug repellent and found out they had one, I was very excited. Unfortunately, I really wish I had never bought it.

Positives:

-Scent: This has a really pleasant citrus scent to it that I really did like (however my husband though I smelled like I just sprayed myself in Pledge and he was NOT a fan, lol).

Negatives:

-It attracts bugs: What amazes me - having come on here to check out the reviews - is that people gave it 5-stars even after admitting it attracted beetles to them. That's astonishing really. Saying an insect repellent attracted bugs, and yeah, woohoo, go 5 out of 5 stars! Very bizarre. Ants seemed to be attracted to the scent and some black ants even bit me!! Beetles were also attracted to the scent - I felt like a giant walking insect sugar bait!

-Rash: I looked around the net, including reviews on here (wish I had done that BEFORE using it, but always had positive experiences with all other products by BB) and a rash is a common result of using this. I have a nasty rash on my arms and legs now that itch intensely - it's much worse than a normal bug bite - and had do run out and get Benadryl and hydro-cortisone cream. Now instead of a few bug bites, I have bug bites AND a huge rash.

-Oily: This is one OILY product. It's really quite disgusting how slimy and oily it is. I realize it's made with many oils, but it seems they needed to adjust the mixture if the end result looks like you just took a bath in oil. In addition, because of the extreme amount of oils in it, I also ended up getting some acne from it as well, even on my shoulders and upper arms, which is VERY abnormal, that never happens to me.

I got this to replace Off! which made my dog throw up twice after licking my legs. It seemed to do the job without the harmful chemicals but I suspect that it is somewhat comedogenic(clogs pore & causes acne) when applied on face for a prolonged period of time. Also, the nastier kind of newly introduced mosquito sometimes did not mind the Burt's Bees on my body. Conclusion: it does work, but I ended up ordering beekeeper's outfit & citronella candle. I use Burt's Bees only on my hands and ankles.

No nasty chemicals. This product works and smells great. When we were visiting an arboretum in Hawaii, people next to us commented how beautiful the flowers smelled. They didn't realize it was our insect repellant.

The product smell is heavy, and the oil feeling is not I liked, the effect can last for more than 4 hours, but will be fate after that. The pure natural formula is very good for baby, but I don't like the oil feeling.

The mosquitoes were very bad this past year the repellent had little to no effect. Perhaps when they are not so bad it would be more effective, but in deep woods where the mosquitoes will go after anything that moves this product may not work so well.
