I bought this conditioner (and it's matching shampoo) a few months ago because they were on clearance at Target. I just started using it. However, my hair is SO dry. I decided to stick it out and see if it got better. My hair does look clean for longer than most shampoo/conditions I've used. However, my hair is tangly and dry all the time, including immediately after I get out of the shower. I would not recommend this product. It HURTS to brush my hair and I feel like the damage it is doing to my hair with how hard and dry it has become cannot be outweighed by the fact that it is natural. It does seem like my hair has more body, but I would take soft hair over dry-body any day.

Just for info: I have fine, straight hair. It has never been dry, although every once in awhile it can get oily. It might be better suited for other hair types.

In my quest to use natural beauty products, I have settled on this conditioner as my regular one. Good Points:
1) Free of Sodium Lauryl/Laureth Sulfates
2) Paraben AND Pthalate-Free (Hard to Find This!)
3) No residue on my hair - I have very fine hair, and this doesn't leave it feeling weighed down or greasy

Bad Points
1) The smell. It is not really pleasant, and borders on being unpleasant. This is the area I can tell the biggest difference between regular brands and natural brands...but it's a smart sacrifice to purchase something that is healthier for me and the environment.

This shampoo and conditioner combo worked well for me for a few weeks, but then they started leaving this really weird super-greasy spot on the back of my head! And I mean, right after taking a shower too. I'd take a shower in the morning, and in the afternoon would have this greasy spot. It was so greasy that it felt like the hair on the back of my head hadn't dried. I had to ask my husband to look and tell me whether it was wet, or greasy. When I switched to a different shampoo and conditioner, it went away.

That said, it is probably just some weird quirk of my hair type. I have thick, waist-length, type 2a/2b hair going by naturallycurly.com's classifications, prone to frizz and a greasy scalp (but usually it takes 2 days before the greasiness sets in!).

Before the greasy spot started, this combo worked really well, so I'm still giving it 4 stars. My hair felt very soft and it did indeed look shinier. I was sad to have to find something new because it had been working so well.

I was especially happy with this product combo, because it seemed to condition my hair so well that I did not need to follow up with a styling creme or leave-in conditioner. Which is just really unusual for me -- I always have to follow up with those things because my hair is so prone to frizz. But I had no frizz while using this combo, it was amazing.

The thing I did not like though, was the scent. It didn't smell bad...but it sure didn't smell good either.

I wouldn't say it's the best, but not the worst either. And because it's mostly natural, I'm sold. I think it does increase the shine of my hair, and it smells decent. I'm no hippy but after reading on the EPA website about what we have in our homes, I don't want toxic stuff around my family, so I will give up the salon brands for health. Babies have died from swallowing beauty products, such as hair conditioner, so this Burt's Bees stuff rocks. I got the "baby bee" baby wash and milk lotion and my daughter's mild excema is completely gone, but like I said it was mild (though VERY persistent).

I have always had trouble with perfumes, make-up & hair products causing allergic reactions. Most products that claim to be for sensitive skin either don't really help or are so expensive that it's ridiculous. Burt's Bees Grapefruit & Sugar Beet Shampoo & Conditioner got my hair clean, soft & tangle-free without giving me a rash or runny nose. I didn't have to spend half my paycheck to buy it either. I'm sold on these products. I gave them to family members who also have reactions to regular "perfumey" products this Christmas. While it would be nice to use products that smell wonderful, if it's going to make me sneeze, get a runny nose or a rash then I'm going to avoid them & stick with Burt's Bees from now on.

This product is a hidden gem!

Firstly, allow me to rate this product 4.5 stars, not 5. Read the review for details.

My hair profile:

Naturally fine hair mixed with an almost even blend of medium-coarse hair. Curl type includes highly porous 3c, 4a afro-type hair strands, with many strands being simply wavy around my sides, nape and front.
My hair is of medium density meaning that it is not really considered `thick'. I will have been "natural"/relaxer-free for 2 years this March.

Length of experience with this product: I have used this product consistently for about 2 months now, with the frequency being almost every day.

Pros:

1) A mostly natural product that I can feel good about using on my hair every day. The conditioner leaves my hair feeling well moisturized and is not too heavy. If I want to weigh my curls down a bit and get the "hanging curl" effect, I use more of the product and only rinse out about 90-95% of it. After that, I spend about 5 minutes applying a thin layer of olive oil eco-styler gel to 2" thick sections to help seal and lock-in my stretched curls. This leaves my hair with exceptional shine and the manageability that I've been searching for. It's important to note that my hair has great shine because of the Burt's Bees conditioner without the use gel. I just use the gel for even more shine, something my hair naturally has little of.

2) Increased overall shine. For me the product does what it claims, but it does take time to notice the difference. Shine, in my opinion, is hard to achieve and maintain with curly hair but is possible with the right amount of care and products. See below for more details on how I increase my shine.

3) The product allows for easier detangling.
