5.0 out of 5 stars Miss my home Country Music, March 7, 2000
By cotsi@hotmail.com (Toronto, Canada) - See all my reviews
I have been in Canada for the last 4 years. I'm going to the university there beside of missing my home country, I have missed my culture. This CD is the best thing on the market as far as I'm concern. I haven't heard akazeze and Inanga in a long while. It is so beautiful. For you people who haven't heard the Burundian music, try this CD and you will let me know.

5.0 out of 5 stars awesomely beautiful, absolutely pure, August 10, 2001
By A Customer
I've owned the cd for years and it remains one of my all time favorites. Burundi is among the most real music I have heard. There is no corporate structure between the soul of the music and what you hear. You are listening directly into the beings of the musicians. The male voices are the most protean earth music and the girls sing like locusts or angels. I'd gladly trade twenty contemporary so called ethno pop disks for one of these. The best.

5.0 out of 5 stars This CD will change your life, January 3, 2006
By jive rhapsodist (NYC, NY United States) - See all my reviews

What a beautiful recording! And it has been influential in so many ways. Those girls who sound like they're singing backwards have shown up as samples in so many things that I've heard that it's laughable. The drum ensembles were the basis of a whole English pop movement (and listen to Adam and the Ants and Bow Wow Wow for the usage that Malcolm McLaren made of them). And that guy on the cover! His deep instrument and his breathing song...worth more than any thesis on African retentions in the Blues. One picture...as they say. The new tracks added for the CD don't add so much, as far as I'm concerned.
