5.0 out of 5 stars Above-average clerical mystery
First in the Mother Lavinia Grey series. Mother Grey is suspected of murdering the Episcopal Bishop of New Jersey to save her parish from being closed by the diocese.
A fun book for folks interested in the tribulations of female priests in the Episcopal church and in traditional mysteries.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bury the Bishop, introducing Mother Grey, February 12, 2006
This review is from: Bury the Bishop (Mass Market Paperback)
Bury the Bishop 1995 - St. Bedes is a down and out parish full of idiosyncratic characters and Mother Grey, a newly ordained is there to bring it new life! The local bishop wanted to close down this church and when he gets murdered a the annual diocesan convention, she becomes a suspect. Because of this Mother Grey has to spend almost all her energy to track down the killer. Writer is excellent in describing the religious in-fighting in the Episcopal Church. Mother Grey, called by her congregation Mother Vinny is a busy lady, is 35 years old and has a good sense of humor.

This is the first book in the Mother Grey series and a reader should start here to understand it all and keep track. This is the first of 5 books in which she is the main character. Kate Galloway (1930-) lives in Lambertville, New Jersey.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'll read more about 'Vinnie, August 15, 2011

I really enjoyed this book & will be ordering more in the series. Mother Vinnie is a person I'd like to know--good but not too good. The only thing I had trouble believing was that she was only a size 6 but didn't work out. There was one bit of a coincidence, but coincidences do happen. I didn't know who killed the bishop until Vinnie did. Too many times with other books I'm disappointed that the detective is a bit dense.

3.0 out of 5 stars A New Mystery Series for Me, December 24, 2009

This review is from: Bury the Bishop (Mass Market Paperback)
This is a new series for me but, even though I liked the book I don't think I'll ever read another one from this series. There are far better mystery series. I didn't particularly like the style nor the main characters. At times the book seemed to ramble and I would lose interest. I started and quit reading it once but threw it in the suitcase with others when I went on vacation. Had I not finished the other books I probably never would have read this one. I don't recommend it.
